The Appalachian Mountaineers have picked up the commitment of offensive tackle Kalan Jones of Habersham Central High in Mt. Airy, Ga. And in doing so, the Apps may have bested three ACC schools. Jones told MountaineerIllustrated.com that Georgia Tech, Clemson and Wake Forest had all been recruiting him seriously, although none had offered yet.

Key statement....."none had offered yet". That can make a difference if you want to be assured of an education and get to play football.

It looks like Jones' primary interest is playing for a team that beats Michigan again..

November 1, 2009  10:57 AM ET

App. could probably beat most of the teams in the ACC this year and they ARE THE best team in NC

Like I tell my son everyday, a full ride, is a full ride.

Must be close by or near his regular moon shine delivery route or near all his inbred relatives.

NEWSFLASH!!!

Kid decides to accept scholarship offer at App State instead of "preferred walk-on" offer from a few ACC schools!

Yep.

I think this is a good thing. He doesn't have to worry about how to pay for school while trying to make the team while trying to have good grades, intelligent kid!

November 1, 2009  03:18 PM ET

That Kalan Jones, he don't ever learn.

November 1, 2009  03:39 PM ET

This is ridiculous. The headline might as well read: Recruit accepts lone offer. Where's the news in this one?

Am pretty sure he will get both if he goes to App. St but I suppose people like you know everything and don't want to feel slighted just because your school was one of the schools listed.

That's classy, you must be quite the egocentric idiot to make that type of statement.

Where was Texas listed in this article? You're welcome to toss in your 2 cents but at least make an intelligent comment.

Oh and the point, the clearly went over your head, was app state was his only offer at this time and he took it therefore not having to worry about how he will pay for school. Most kids would do the same thing. waiting can be hazardous to their health.

That's a pretty accurate description of him, actually.

November 2, 2009  09:46 AM ET

Grades? Hard to believe he is sooooo talented and no one offered from a "big school" yet. It makes me wonder about his academic status. But to the point made above, a free ride is a free ride to an education.

Now thats the biggest overstatement I've heard in awhile, it would either be UNC or ECU for the best school in the state.....

Okay, UT wasn't listed but my point was that he can get an education anywhere he goes. Some of the most "educated" people never attended a university...
