Emerging from a difficult month and some complicated personal problems, Delonte West re-appeared on the Cavaliers' active roster Saturday. The decision to clear him was based on advice from the team's medical staff after monitoring and working with West for the last month as he continues to battle bipolar disorder. West was noticeably thinner but played well in the Cavs' 90-79 win over the Charlotte Bobcats, scoring 13 points in 24 minutes off the bench. "This is the next step of his process," General Manager Danny Ferry said. "We're taking it one day at time, but he's doing well."

Wish him all the best. Good player. The Cav's need him if they hope to keep LBJ and Mo Williams from jumping ship.

Keep on pumping,

Good guy...good role player....south paw gives him an advantage too.

Bipolar disorder ? That means mood swings and going from one extreme to the other.

Isn't that what ails the entire Cavs team ? The whole team is bipolar - they play well in the regular season and then disappear in the Playoffs.

Same with Shaq. One on hand, he's one of the few veterans who is still a force in the paint. On the other hand, he's a liability because he's the only NBA veteran who can't make free throws.

LOL !! :)

Maybe it's time to make sure that people who are bi-polar aren't allowed to keep a small arsenal on them when they are riding on motorcycles. Oh wait a sec, I forgot, it's more important to make sure that people don't have health-care in this country than to make sure that guys with serious disorders like West can't carry 3 loaded weapons on them while riding a motorcycle.

Good guy...

Really ?
why EXACTLY is he a good guy ?
....cause he plays basketball & is famous ?

November 1, 2009  09:19 AM ET

I truly hope he gets his act together, regardless of his role with the Cavs.

But it's up to him.

exactly-
but the cavs really could help this guy by
MAKING him see a shrink, MAKING him take his meds,
having a therapist travel with him.....

He's a good guy in his relationships with rest of team and his Bad guy tendencies purportedly have a medical basis you remarkedly objective and rancor-less Knick fans

Seems to me West's problems are held in check as long as he takes his meds. Solution: Make sure he takes his meds. This shouldn't be that difficult.

November 1, 2009  10:49 AM ET

I wonder if West should take a time off and go to a rehab? This is a very bad sign. He needs to take control of his life before it gets worse. He does have a mental problem and it should be taken care of. I remember in the summer where he was caught w/ multiple guns and that was the initial sign for me that this guy is mental. The NBA is his life and he needs to know that. The court is where he gets his peace of mind. If he does not get his act together then everything will be taken away in an instant.

lol....what does this have to do with the knicks?

so he's a good team-mate? that's your assertion?
I mean Ray Carruth was a good teammate too,
I'm sure Nate Newton was also......

That doesn't make him a good guy-
he has issues- no doubt- - and as I said in my response to Otis
- hopefully he gets help....
but don't say he's a good guy.
Thats ridiculous
He is what he is - a troubled guy that if he's not on his meds
is a MENACE to society

Until this story broke, most people weren't even aware there was a problem. West has issues that are totally under control as long as he takes his meds. The only problem is that people with bipolar disorder often don't take them. During the season players show up daily to be taped up, rubbed down, etc. West should be given his meds under supervision at that time. I wouldn't call him a menace to society.

Read what I wrote- I said if he's off his meds he is

So you don't consider arming yourself with THREE guns a menace?
--not all bi-polar people are 'menaces'
He, by his ACTIONS is.

Hope they didn't rush him back, his life is much more important then the Cavs season.

Jgb, YOU are a menace to Delonte if off your meds, it sounds like.

Anyway, this guy still had a productive first game for a guy with a tumultous summer like his. If he is fully back and regular on his meds, he will help the Cavs. Most people seem to say Parker this, Parker that, Parker is a bigger guy compared to West....but I think Delonte is a good enough player to really help the team out before Parker figures out the team.

as somone posted the other day- if the cavs are hinging their
season on Delonte West- they're in trouble

My understanding from local media outlets is that the they have had a team of shrinks working with him and controlling his meds since camp began. The team hasn't come out and stated as much but they have said next to nothing about him to the media. This came from reporters just digging for info, so the info is what it is. The regular structure of a NBA season should help him I would imagine.

Also his contract next year is only partially guaranteed, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the team makes seeing a shrink and monitoring his meds a requirement in the offseason if he wants the unguaranteed portion picked up.

right....I have not said and will never say their season hinges on Delonte....but I will say again that if he can keep a level head, he should help the team now and later in the season, in my opinion. And it was a joke about you being a menace to West, btw... :)
