Bears head coach Lovie Smith is now in charge of the defense, and last week they made some very elementary mistakes with their alignments and fundamentals. They must get this fixed or the heat will be on in Chicago -- really high.

Wow. . . Wide receiver, offensive line, offensive coordinator. Now add defense to the list of things that need to be fixed.

One bad game against a good Bengals team and the bandwagon Bears fans want to dump their SB coach. The Bears will beat the Browns today by 30-something points and all this stops. Hilarious...

Wow, what a fall from his year in the Super Bowl.

November 1, 2009  09:12 AM ET

SO... who will the next coach of daBears be?

November 1, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Hot! Lovie! all in the same headline. I was expecting more from the article. Very dissappointed.

November 1, 2009  09:44 AM ET

The heat is on.

Glenn Frey was indeed a soothsayer.

Mike Shanahan and Jon Gruden, Brian Billick, Steve Mariucci, Denny Green, Mike Holmgren, Art Shell, Mike Nolan, Jim Hanslett, Gregg Williams, Tony Dungy,??? & More ex. NFL re-treads...

Maybe take a top ranked co-ordinator like Garrett of Dallas or go to the College ranks i.e., Rich Rodriguez who's sure to be un-employed if Michigan continues to lose. Jim Harbaugh of Stanford has a solid NFL background & is a motivator...

One thing for certain, Lovie has to go...

Anyone would be better that Lovie. As a die-hard Bears fan i have always hated this guy being the coach. And take Turner with you, that guy couldn't score points in college and now is can't in the pro's...shocker

One bad game? The Bears are 19-19 since going to the SB in 2006. If your team is good enough to go to the SB, then they should be good enough to go over 500 immediately thereafter.

Lovie's an average coach. That, unfortunately, doesn't cut it.

Basically, I get the feeling the patchwork defense is coming apart (use to one of the deepest Linebacker cores in the NFL, now the thinnest due to all the injuries). As far as the offense goes, its just offensive. Turner needs to be shown the door. My 6 year old daughter could call better plays (she's available if your looking Chicago).

I don't think so. As experienced, successful former head coaches, these guys will all cost WAYYY too much money for the Halas / McCaskey Koolaid budget. They'll keep Lovie until his contract expires and then they make a play for an "up-and-comer" on the cheap like Harbaugh or Singletary (if he's available) who values loyalty more than prudence.

I'm a Packer fan and we beat the Browns by 30 last week. That was expected. Not something to pound your chest about. More like showing up for practice, IMHO.

It's not just the Bengals game that has the heat on Lovie. First, Rivera is gone(why?), and the defense has regressed. Ron Turner and his Pop Warner playbook aren't getting the job done. What makes the lack of O irritating is the fact that the Bears now have Cutler, Forte, Olsen, Bennett, and Knox, all guys 26 and under. That should be a core good enough to exploit most opposing defenses, but are hamstrung by an unimaginative Bears OC. Those are two of his decisions. And even a bandwagon fan can see that this is not a very good overall football team. I don't think even the simplest fan was impressed by their "rout" of the Lions. And it's not just the Bears losses either, it's the way they lose. Getting picked apart by Brian Griese or calling an ill-advised squib kick against the Falcons, or the Bears committing a senseless penalty during crunch time. These are things that Lovie's in charge of. His Cover 2 D is killing me, and the way he handles players is starting to unnerve me as well. If the Bears don't make the playoffs, Lovie should be fired.

Brother Lovie is over rated.

November 1, 2009  04:41 PM ET

Bears 30 Browns 7. If GB beats Minn today the Bears are what, 1.5 out of first? There's alot of football left...

November 1, 2009  05:51 PM ET

The first thing thay have to do is get a new OC!

November 1, 2009  06:23 PM ET

Bears beat up on the Browns, big deal.

November 1, 2009  06:47 PM ET

Could be worse, he could be feeling Cutler.
