Is Fabio Capello on the Hunt for Werder Bremen's young attacker? Consistently good displays have put Aaron Hunt on course for a cap or two. But will they be for Germany or England?

Capello has stated he's not ready for the English senior team, it's Pearce who's after him. Plus, isn't this the same guy who was accused of racially abusing a few of the U21 English players a few years back?

Funny thing here is that Hunt said he would only play for the country of his birth, which is Germany. Considering he has been playing for the German youth sides for quite some time, and is reportedly going to be called up by Loew for the senior side, I highly doubt it will matter if Capello offers to call him up or not. At the end of the day, Hunt is German.

from the name it sounds like he is a dual national, a jermaine jones type, an RAF miltary brat.

guess he would go with the nation affording him the best opportunity and assume this is preparing him for the next euros, not SA 10. both nations seem set with enough stirkers barring a rash of injuries.

I thought that too, but apparently his mother is English.

This is like Hargreaves when they hastily called him up to keep him from Canada and Wales. Call him up to keep him from another country. Besides he's got a much better shot at breaking into the German team than England right now.

he was accused and he was cleared. There were nothing.

He had a lot of bad luck in the past 3 years. A constant chain of carreer ending injuries.

And he came back. He worked very hard with the coaches - overtime, outside of the usual training sessions, and he is better now then ever.

He has already stated that he wants to stay with Werder.

Oh, and he is a midfielder/striker. He is pretty versatile.

jimavejk. Nope. His mother is english. Not his father.

Funny how the guy scores a brace over the weekend and the English press starts inventing stuff for the speculation machine. Hunt is playing for Germany from every indication. If I was Capello, I'd be more worried about nationalizing a goalkeeper.

Hint: England's national team is about as overrated as Notre Dame football is right now. Name one traditional power they could beat right now, and I'd barely give you Argentina.

Dude, when is Notre Dame football not overrated!

What is the word on Hargreaves these days?

Well, from what I understand, since England did qualify for the World Cup, they are entitled to win in 2010. I highly doubt England will be eliminated in a penalty shoot-out in either the 2nd Round or Quarter-finals. That almost never happens.

You forgot to mention how they will not have a key player sent off or how they will not have a goal disallowed by a phantom penalty/offsides in the box on a corner.

Sorry to disappoint you, but, I'm not booking a flight to London to be in Trafalgar Square July 9th (or whatever date the finals are).

I actually can't stand everyone making them the favourites and saying how Capello has made everyone night and day better. They still need a keeper and the backline is fragile. People like to write off friendlies but it's the only measuring stick you have until the real games, and the only contender they've beat recently is Germany. The draw will be quite interesting.

He's back in training apparently. SAF registered him for the group stages, so they expect him back at some point. ManU needs him, he's such a workhorse and very versitile.

You got any odds on that key player being sent off? Here are mine:

Rooney: 2/1
Terry: 5/2
Cashley Cole: 8/1

You forget Rio at 5/1 last man back, getting caught out and dragging him down outside the box (ala Carragher)

Yeah, that's largely due to the English press which hypes up the chances of England so greatly. I think it truely has a negative impact on the English players. The German press focuses much more on how bad Germany is going into the tournaments. We've played in 11 World Cup Semi-finals, 7 Finals, and have 3 wins, but reading the German press you'd think we've made it out of the group stage twice in the last 60 years.

As a German, I would be nervous not feeling insecure going into the World Cup. That being said, I'm booking my ticket to Germany for the group stages, not the knock out round next year.

I really can't stand the press there, they have no idea the damage they do. They're like the jealous sibling, the second someone does well or hits it big, they set out to destroy them. It's pretty sad actually. But I digress....

The Germans got a huge lift being the hosts at the last WC, but they have a fantastic system that they groom their youth players into. That's where England really lags behind the European powers, there isn't a formal set up to develop players in a particular system everything is done at club level. Even though a good portion of the Dutch team plays abroad, they know the system when they link up with the national team, that's what they were raised on. Same with Germany I'd imagine.

FORMER footballer and prolific scorer. Not very fast, not super skilled, but very very talented at finding the back of the net. A very high soccer IQ.
