Incoming Players Association executive director Michael Weiner said the union will closely monitor offseason transactions to see whether collusion among teams to hold down free agent signings is alive, as several established players settled for short-term deals last offseason. "I think some people on the management side have done a pretty good job of getting out to the public that it's not going to be a strong market," said Weiner. "I think that remains to be seen."

The union will keep an eye on management. Wow. In a related story, nurses will continue to take patients' vital signs.

I say shut down MLB for a few seasons. We'll see how strong the union is then.

Minor League baseball rocks!

And it's a lot cheaper also.

have they seen the crop of 2010 free agents? Not exactly a bumper crop, so they should not expect a bunch of big $$ signings.

Yes, absolutely, MLBPA: mediocre players who signed for less than they were asking for in the worst economy since 1935 = collusion against overpaid, entitled, drug-abusing egomaniacs.

Keep yapping, we all feel the pain of the Bobby Abreu's of the world who have to settle for $5 million to play baseball a few hours 1 of every 3 days of the year when >10% of the country is out of work. Way to win the public sympathy.
