How bad is Ovechkin's injury?

The Washington Capitals suffered their second straight overtime defeat Sunday, this one a 5-4 decision against the Columbus Blue Jackets. But it was the loss they suffered early in the second period that might prove to be much more significant. Alex Ovechkin was hurt during a scrum and missed the final 33 minutes 50 seconds of the game. Ovechkin said afterward that he had suffered an upper-body injury and that he was day-to-day. The two-time MVP refused to say how the injury occurred or where he was hurting. And when asked if he feared the injury to be serious, he said, "I don't know."

I wouldn't be surprised if he sprained his shoulder picking cherries at center ice

November 2, 2009  09:33 AM ET

or maybe he hurt it scoring his 14 goals this season. tell crosby to start scoring real goals and not just the garbage rebounds he gets

"How bad is Ovechkin's injury?"

Well, AO says he doesn't know. And, if da man hiself says he don't know, and he's the one done hurting, why should T&R or anyone speculate?

And .... whose cherry do you suppose he was picking? ;)

Crosby is not a true goal scorer, he admitted as much, he is a playmaker. He makes his teammates better. Just ask Malone, armstrong, etc.. He made them high priced freeagent busts.
Plus he is a 2 way player, something Ovie will never be.

By the way, although Ovie can score goals he acts like its the biggest goal in his career, his celebrations don't scream love of scoring, its look at me I'm the show. Crosby is a class act and Ovie is a clown....Crosby also has that sweet Stanley Cup ring, something Ovie will never get.

November 2, 2009  09:38 AM ET

Don't see many guys taking less money to play with Ovie like they are with the Pens

November 2, 2009  09:41 AM ET

Of course, I lock him in for my fantasy pool this week and he gets hurt.

On a related topic: anybody need a player to start playing really badly? I've got an open slot on my team, and, well, putting a guy on my fantasy roster really seems to do the trick...

lol...Caps fans like you are what gives them a bad name. No one is arguing the fact that Ovechkin is the best goal scorer in the league. Crosby is, by far, the best PLAYMAKER in the league. The main difference between Ovechkin and Crosby is that Crosby has the bigger potential to make all of the other people on his line better.

And sorry, Crosby couldn't read your response about Ovechkin. The Stanley Cup is blocking his monitor

Shudder, thanks, didn't need that image.

Penguins fans, always good for a laugh. Bashing a guy's character when he gets injured by talking trash about something completely unrelated to the injury. Something about that screams of hypocrisy.

And by the way, Chunkystools, does the name Marian Hossa bring back any memories?

November 2, 2009  10:09 AM ET

Here come all the Penguins fans that troll message boards in any attempt to talk trash about the Red Wings, Flyers, and Capitals whenever possible.

lol dude...it was a joke. Get over yourself. The Wings/Flyers/Pens fans on this board are constantly ribbing each other good-naturedly. Don't be a whiner.

Yieks! Goodness! That's a tasteless joke! Now ... if you said Sid Crosby .....!

Ovechkin is the Senators. Without him they have no team. The way the Senators are designed completely around just him, but he has no support. The man carries the team on his back. He is the best player in hockey but he is on a team nit designed to last in the playoffs. The team is not structured well for the long term or in case Ovechkin is injured like he is now.

I have been a Pens fan since '85 and Ovechkin is one of the best players I have seen in a long time. If the Senators want to get to the next level they need to follow what the Red Wings and the Pens have done building a team for the long hull and make people want to play there.

People do not want to play for the Senators right now and they need to change that.

If it was a joke, then I certainly apologize shafnutz. Seen too many negative comments on these boards that were definitely not joking. Glad to hear that it isn't truly mean spirited. No one wants these guys to get hurt. By all means, rip away.

I'm hoping he is done for the week. In my CBC hnic pool, the one were the winner wins a car, I am in 30th, and nearly everyone ahead of me picked him this week, and if he is done for the week, I can move up into the top 10 at least.
