It didn't arrive with Dayne Crist's MRI results as an addendum. But the new Notre Dame depth chart did suggest that the sophomore backup quarterback will miss some time, as Evan Sharpley is now listed as the No. 2 signal-caller for the Irish.

In other words...

... the leading contender to replace Clausen next year after Jimmy goes to NFL.

Yes they did and to USC also. But the won their other games.

Sharpley was in line to replace Quinn so he knows the system, but if Clausen goes down depth at QB gets real thin.

Sharpley is a 5th year senior...good try though.

November 3, 2009  09:22 AM ET

Hang in there Jimmy.....!

November 3, 2009  09:23 AM ET

Sharpley played Clausen's freshman year... even started several games. He's a better baseball player, and I believe he got drafted as a pitcher. He's got a strong arm, but is completely flat footed in the pocket.

I think he got his 5th year approved so Notre Dame would pay for his Master's degree in coaching...God know's that ain't cheap...

It was a strange injury, Crist needs to tuff'in up like Clausen, that skrike Crist threw in the 3rd for a TD was awesome! Michael Floyd will be back on the field, and Golden Tate in the wildcat formation is good enough to win out the rest of the way. So no worries all you wonderful Charlie Weis fans!

Come back Nate! We need you now!

I think either is MCL or ACL is in shambles and might miss spring ball. Who knows, perhaps this let's Clausen know we need him even more now with the heir-apparent looking like he won't be 100% for half of next year

The coach Weis press conference is today, so we should know more from ND.com, (might miss spring ball.) Man i hope not !

I never did care for artificial turf, It should be out-lawed, grass is the only way to go.

November 3, 2009  10:49 AM ET

Hurt MCL/ACL, the results of giving Charlie piggy back rides?

November 3, 2009  10:55 AM ET

Do you think ND and USC could possibly play in a bowl game if ND wins out the season?

November 3, 2009  10:55 AM ET

It would be nice if somehow ND and USC could play in a bowl game this season

November 3, 2009  10:56 AM ET

I'm sorry to learn that Dane Christ's injury will keep him from playing for awhile.
