Phillies stealing signs?

06:04 AM ET 11.03 | The accusations of sign-stealing at Citizens Bank Park by the Phillies that resurfaced during the World Series yesterday are nothing new to the Mets. The Mets were so convinced in 2007 that the Phillies were using a center-field camera to steal signs they complained to Major League Baseball, whose subsequent investigation was deemed inconclusive. Without specifically saying so, the Yankees revived the accusations in their Game 4 victory Sunday by meeting frequently at the mound and having catcher Jorge Posada flash multiple signs even when no runners were on base. nd when ex-Phillies manager Larry Bowa reportedly said on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic that the Phillies were good at stealing signs, his former team -- specifically center fielder Shane Victorino -- had heard quite enough. Victorino erupted before Game 5.

a 5'2" Polynesian centerfielder with a Napolean complex erupts like a wannabee baddasss...and in other news, grass is green.

What's the big deal? This has happened in baseball for years. It's just part of the game. If the Yankees are that concerned, just change the signs.

Howard is getting the wrong signs if they are stealing them.....

So....stealing signs gets them a 3-2 deficit? Whoever is stealing those signs must not be too bright.

November 3, 2009  07:03 AM ET

Is there a way for pitchers to benefit from this ability?...

... because offense is not Philadelphia's problem.

They need to fool the Yankees bats with signs...

Why isn't Sen. Arlen Specter asking for a congresional investigation into this cheating????????

And yet when the Patriots videotaped the opponents' sideline from 15 degrees higher than they were allowed to tape the sidelines, it set off literally years of controversy. Of course, everyone hated NE for dominating the league, but still. Taping is not illegal, just taping from the exact location they did it from. In baseball, stealing signs is actually against the rules, and yet teams do it all the time. So if the Spygate thing was actualyl about breaking rules, then where is all the rage on this story? Clearly Spygate was about jealousy and nothing else when actual cheating (as opposed to doing something completely legal from a location that is now allowed) gets only a few comments, and they are all of the "who cares" variety.

As Robin Yount once said, "If you're not cheating, you're not trying". Baseball is all about getting the strategic edge and while Robin was not referring to steroids, he was talking about baseball in the 80's that used tactics like this. Sure, the Yankees may complain about it, but its part of the game. Stealing signs is a tradition in baseball that stems back from Ty Cobb and others. The Yankees should stop complaining and start designing a way not to have their signs stolen. Its a hard thing to do, steal signs at the major league level. If you can do it and get away with it, then I say more power to you.

Don't the networks control the cameras during the World Series? If the accusation is that the Phillies are using a camera to steal signs, sounds like the beef is with Fox who is covering the World Series.

While I'm talking about Fox, please find some new announcers? Please? You guys are making this unwatchable.

That was different. The Patriots were using video technology to study practices and other things. Its actually a skill to steal signs in the Major Leagues and not get caught. One player has to decifer the code from the catcher and pitcher, then relay that to the hitter at the plate. Its all apart of an in-game "cat and mouse" game. The Patriots violated a code of ethics, while the Phillies are utilizing old strategies to get an edge. There's a difference.

If you read the article, it states that the Phillies were using the center field camera to do it.
