One day after suffering an upper-body injury, Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin had his status downgraded to week to week after he was treated by the team's medical staff and underwent an MRI exam. The team has not yet ruled him out of this weekend's back-to-back games against Florida.

And a huge sigh of relief is heard to the East...

Downgraded? The day he was hurt they said he was "questionable" for Thursday's game, now he's week to week? How is that a downgrade?

I was thinking the same thing...first I hear day to day, next I hear week to week. Pretty sure that is an upgrade

Ov, Staal, Malkin, Kovalchuk injured and Crosby is healthy... its like Bizarro-NHL :)

Maybe DirecTV put a curse on the NHL after they got B&Tc#ed out by Comcast.

I'm a caps fan and I hate to say it.. but maybe an injured OV is exactly what the caps need right now. If you're a caps fan, you probably know what I'm talking about.. if not... then you're probably not following that team.

I think they mean his situation is downgraded ... not his injury.

I am not a Caps fan (at all), but I know exactly what you mean. Until your team gets some solid secondary scoring, they aren't suited for a deep playoff run. The other players (Semin, Backstrom, etc) need to be able to step up on their own and start scoring goals.

No idea, I think they want to give the Caps hope. Week to week is not a good sign for an injury like this in hockey. Alex Ovechkin is my favorite player in hockey even though I am a Pens fan.

I hope he gets better but I hope he does not go in earlier than he should and ruin himself and his career.

I was about to ask the same thing. Hmm

I agree. They probably mean Caps fannation status of "Holy ****!!!" downgraded to "Phew...it's not as bad as we feared."

Caps - A.O. = .500 team

November 3, 2009  10:40 AM ET

As a Pens fan I have to say this could end up helping the Caps. When Sid and Fluery went down two years ago not only did Malkin step up but so did the rest of the team. That is why the Pens are so good right now, the other players HAD to get better.

I gotta say - reading down this thread makes me believe the Pens fans may have just usurped Leafs fans in thinking that Pittsburgh is the Centre of the Universe. Out of 12 posts so far, somehow there has been some sort of Pittsburgh presence in 7. Give me a break, guys, not everything has to be about the Pens! (this makes 8 out of 12, by the by)

"Ovechkin's injury downgraded." It's no longer an upper body injury. Now it's a mid body injury.

haha no...some people just compared the Ovechkin injury to the superstar injuries for the Pens, and how it ultimately helped the team as the whole. You can't really see an example of that anywhere else

It's called winning the Stanley Cup. I wll refrain from any sarcastic remark here because there are a number of Leafs fans on here I like.

BTW...unlike the last AO thread, this one is actually concentrating on his injury status and the effects on the team.

So, us Pens' fans aren't allowed to comment at all, even if it is about his injury?

I have to say, even though I respect MOST posters here, there doesn't seem to be any uprising or "calls of fairness" when there is a Crosby thread and there are 200+ posts (mostly "anti") from all walks of life, and all fans. Hmm.
