Problems inside Giants defense

Giants defensive end Justin Tuck was blunt Monday when he expanded on comments made Sunday by middle linebacker Antonio Pierce about how the defense had a communication problem during a 40-17 loss to the Eagles. This seemed to suggest, in part, the positioning of the defensive backs, who did not always seem sure of whom to cover as Donovan McNabb threw three touchdown passes. Tuck's words also hinted that players were not always quick to follow the instructions of Bill Sheridan, the defensive coordinator who sends in the plays, or the adjustments of Pierce, who can revise a play before the snap of the ball.

There are problems, but from a fan's perspective they are hard to pin-point.

All of the same personnel other than Defensive Coordinator are still in place...

Oh that's it!

THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR!

You screw up- blame the boss!

There's no "I" in "team" but there is one in "Giants." Football isn't an individual sport, gentlemen. Get on the same page or you won't enjoy the book.

It did appear to be a lot of confusion on the Giants Defense prior to the snap on a lot of big plays....

beatdown by a rival should always get an internal reaction inside the locker room. publicly though, little should be said

He's a genius! Lost 40-17 and figured out there was a problem with the Defense??? Here's your sign.

Here we go with the "dissension" in the Giants locker room again. Meanwhile, Shockey is living it large in the Big Easy.

Yeah he doesn't seem to be dissenting with anyone.

Two or three weeks ago, it was the other way around.

Didn't look good for Shockey 2 years ago though.

A defense minus 1- Phillips ( the key one. 2- Boley ( the only LB that can move) 3-Ross your starting CB and Canty ( brought in to put pressure up the middle) 4- Jay Alford ( your best tackle and add in a new DC, and it was bound to happen...no surprise there..

they can have him....mike ditka would catch 60 passes in that offense. the mike ditka of today..

I think the issues have more to do with personnel than scheme or coaching. The Giants safeties and LB's are slow, and the Saints gave the league the blueprint on how to beat them.

I didn't realize how important Kenny Phillips was to the Giants success, they really miss him, and Boley too. The Giants have another tough assigment this week in the Chargers, and it is likely going to be on Eli to match San Diego score-for-score. After that, it's a bye week and maybe some of the MIA players like Boley, Aaron Ross and Chris Canty can return and help right the ship.

What worries me is that he was having problems with one of his star players in pre-season.

Add to that an offense that all the sudden looks very pedestrian, and it isn't hard to see why the Gints are struggling.

Very true when the offense turns the ball over or goes 3 and out it puts even more pressure on a depleted defense.

I think Eli is hurt more than he is letting on.

You also can't get depleted at WR like they did and expect an injured QB to carry the team either

Apparently Reese the G.M. thinks so too. That may be why so many of his passes sail high, not pushing off and following through. I give Eli credit, he is not blaming it on anything other that playing bad. When it goes good, it goes all good, and when it goes bad- watch out..
