Roberto Luongo skated with goaltender coach Ian Clark on Monday morning and coach Alain Vigneault hinted that the Vancouver Canucks starter may be close to recovering from a hairline fracture of a rib on his left side. The Canucks leave Wednesday for a five-game road trip and Luongo could see some action at some point.

I love that photo.

I'd wager somebody skated near the crease and used harsh language on him causing him to drop like he was shot.

If he had to wear equipment like Ken Dryden wore he'd be a nobody.

I don't know if anyone on the planet hates the Canucks as much as Hank.

Mind you, Bobby Lu sure DOES seem to get hurt alot...

Also, why rush him back? You just got 2 shutouts outta Raycroft, why not make sure the rib is fully healed rather than have him play in discomfort and run the risk of re-aggravating it?

So you're saying Raycroft just had two shutouts while the Mighty Lu gave up 4 goals in the third to the Red Wings last week? Seems simple enough.

Hate is such a harsh word.

I prefer to think of it as revelling in their inadequacies....

Should have traded the flopper while they had a chance.

"revelling in their inadequacies..."

Nice. Are you a PR guy or something Hank? You sure have the gift of "spin", haha

November 3, 2009  11:10 AM ET

Luong Bongo Dongo! Just don't let your shadow fall on him or anywhere near his crease if you're a forward or you'll be penilized for goaltender interferance!

Looks like Luongo has a rib up his nose.

Just a guy who shoots straight and doesn't candy coat things.

Raycroft is playing good though, let Luongo take his time coming back.

November 3, 2009  01:53 PM ET

Sounds simple enough eh? I'd rest him an extra week.

November 3, 2009  01:55 PM ET

Luongo will bounce back. He does have terrible games yeah but he also steals games outright.

g-FrostLand...You are the Doctor today...these million dollar horses have to get back to the track...none of this healing stuff......bad for the turnstyles, Eh?

2 shutouts are you like Dionne Warwick nhl.com says 1. If I was playing a team thats best player was their goalie I'd be crashing the net too

November 3, 2009  03:37 PM ET

I was noticing that too, ted. I am rarely the guy who goes for players not playing hurt, yet here I am today saying that 3 guys should be coddled. I was feeling guilty about it too, haha. But honestly, this guy and Ovie are EVERYTHING to their teams, why risk a full season when an extra week will make sure he's ready and there's no reoccurence. I wouldn't feel that way about Elias, except the way the article was written, it sounded like he is essentially going straight from the couch to the ice, and that's just stupid.

November 3, 2009  03:57 PM ET

Well Swamps, I guess I saw that he had ONE, and just figured he was so awful it should count as 2 for him...

November 3, 2009  08:17 PM ET

They were working on his double lutz, and triple axel combo. Not to mention his camel spin... no, no, not the death spiral...

And right now playing well enough to have allowed Hongcouver to trade Luongo for a real forward.

I'm so glad they missed the boat on that.
