08:15 AM ET 11.03 | Heckling by Los Angeles Clippers fans may have led to the Mavericks' Drew Gooden saying some allegedly insensitive comments during the Mavericks' game at Staples Center on Saturday. Gooden did not play and was dressed in street clothes behind the bench. According to the Web site Outsports.com, Gooden yelled a homophobic slur at a pair of fans seated near the Mavericks bench. The Web site said Gooden yelled the slur at actor Chris Wylde, who is married and is not gay and was attending the game with a friend.

Why does the news article need to mention that Chris Wylde is not gay? Who cares the slur should not be used plain and simple. And it's none of our businessif he is.

November 3, 2009  08:38 AM ET

No offence, but this sounds like a B.S. issue.
Interesting that the article did not mention what the fans said to provoke the comments by Gooden...maybe they said something about his mom, or racial stuff.
Now NBA players need to take sensitivity lessons?...getting ridicules.
Stop being so sensitive (I meant that in a non-homophobic way).

What a BS article. What did the actor do to provoke Gooden, he's usually a cool customer, something must have ignited him. And, how do you jackasses know this guy isn't gay? Just because he's married has nothing to do with it. What a politically correct world we live in. Wake up dronies.

November 3, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Complete BS. And what's offensive? Who cares if someone is gay? I know don't. Being a **** g o t however is completely different matter.

- as long as he didn't throw a punch- I could care less what
the player said.....I mean it's not like he randomly called the guy
out....I'm sure the fan was heckling him....and gooden simply
responded-
If the fan is too much of a wus to take it back- don't go to games

November 3, 2009  09:01 AM ET

Gooden could have gone in a lot of different directions with his retort. He didn't have to go the homophobic route, especially after the blow up with the Larry Johnson deal recently. Heck, they're Clipper fans ... that's an insult right there!

Don't go to games OR learn to keep your mouth shut if you don't want to hear it come back at you. The world we live in is full of people who can't wait to turn nothing into a gay, race, religion issue.

I'm getting real sick of this PC crap. My best friend ( who actually is gay) and I were just talking about this article. Even he says, it's getting to a point where they make actual gay people look as if they can't take criticism. He said they have much tougher skin than that and while it's appreciated in his words "f*ggt don't describe me but it sure does some of these whiny athletes who act soft as charmin" LOL

Somewhat agree here. Just because you paid for your ticket, doesn't mean you have a free pass at insulting people. Now taunting, booing and jeering is fine by me. As a fan, you are entitled to that. But, as with most things, there's always a line that you don't cross. As a fan, you need to draw the line between the player and the person.

On the other end, these players are considered professionals and act as such.

It really makes me wonder, what this fan allegedly said that ticked Gooden of.

But regardless, Gooden should have known better and just let it go. He should've just taken the high road.

I'm getting tired of Gays, Christians and other lunatic fringe groups trying to control how I speak and think.

Epoch, just so you know, Clippers fans feel like you have violated their civil rights with that insult and will be lanching a class action lawsuit against you...

How can people with no class file a class action lawsuit?

Ha!.. Ok ... that was mean.

QUOTE(#17):

The World has gotten far too sensitive. It's sad to be honest. However, considering the trouble that athletes have been getting into for echoing similar sentiments it might be wise that they watch the language.

We should all watch our language as a rule... but when you're angry the entire point of insults are to insult someone.

You look kind of stupid going up to someone who is gay and yelling "your'e GAY!". And it just confuses the intent. Now call them a flaming *****t and they get the meaning and intent.
