Neuheisel responds to irate dad

Once again the UCLA football team is caught up in the world wide web of drama. I asked Coach Rick Neuheisel about the critical comments Brian Theriot, the father of seldom-used reserve fullback Trevor Theriot, made over the weekend about him, offensive coordinator Norm Chow, running backs coach Wayne Moses and the football program. Below is his response: "Everybody's entitled to their opinion," Neuheisel said. "That's just a part of the deal. It's not uncommon for people to be frustrated when their loved ones aren't getting the kind of playing time that they'd hope for, especially when things aren't going well because its easy to say, How could we do any worse?"

Our children are always alot better in our eyes then they guy in front of him on the depth chart. Any thoughts on this player from UCLA fans?

Translation: Mr. Theriot, your kid really isn't all that and bucket of nuts so you know where you can stick that opinion of yours....hah hah.

November 3, 2009  09:45 AM ET

Rick Neuheisel probably had to ask one of his coordinators who this Tevor kid was.

November 3, 2009  09:46 AM ET

And I am sure Trevor Theriot thanks his dad for getting in touch with coach Neuheisel.

Calling out the coach and the program over a fullback's PT, gimme a break.

November 3, 2009  09:56 AM ET

Ahhhhh. Those Karl Dorral 6-6 specials are looking good right now.

Winning is everything. When you don't bad things happen. It is just as simple as that. There are plenty of talented SoCal high school football players to populate both USC and UCLA. If they could just stem the outflow to out-of-state competitors.

I've seen Dads like that in action, but is was on my kids soccer team

I wonder if they are as concerned about their kids grades? isn't that why they got the scholarship in the first place. Mom and Dad probably go brow beat the teachers into giving the kid better grades and if not threaten the school with some bogus law suit based on discrimination.

November 3, 2009  10:30 AM ET

Theriot's dad or someone else close to him used to blow up the fan forums about how great the kids was and was going to revolutionize the position and on and on. Theriot does get some PT every game but does absolutely nothing with it. Nice work dad, embarrassing your kid in front of the entire team by whining to the coach.

November 3, 2009  10:54 AM ET

Mr. Theriot your kid has a football scholarship it costs you nothing for him to attend one of the premier schools in the nation. Keep your big mouth shut let the kid get his degree and move on with his life. You go to school 4 four years it's free, it like a pay raise for you just shut up!!!!

November 3, 2009  11:05 AM ET

Brian Theriot ought to get together with Beck Campbell (Mitch Mustain's mom). They would be great together.

November 3, 2009  11:07 AM ET

You cannot imagine what teasing will go on with the Theriot kid at practice this week. He will be razed unmercifully by all. If you are undefeated and your kid doesn't play that can be understood but when your team is losing it's embarrassing.

That always works out so well....In high school our defensive head coach had a profane name for just about everyone on the defensive line. One kid he called @#$% Stick. He told his mom...his mom called the school...and that afternoon in practice...he said that we wer going to have tackling practice...and he said "@#$% Stick you got the ball!"....He did not complain to mommy again.

How true. Some parents.... sheesh... By the way, my daughter has given birth to the savior of humankind, the One who will bring peace, sustainable agriculture, non-polluting industries, and unlimited clean energy to all.

I can't believe we lost to this team. Sheesh...

November 3, 2009  11:41 AM ET

Well, there once was a highly recruited QB. He wanted his high school teammates and coach to go to college with him. Only one place would take them all. When things weren't going perfectly for them, they went to complain to the AD who actually sat down with irate parents at a BCS school Now Arkansas is rebuilding, Houston Nutt is doing nothing with outstanding talent at Ole Miss and that QB is #3 or 4 on the depth chart at Southern Cal. At least the high school coach is OK, he is the OC at Auburn.

Funny but sounds like I remember how they used to do it.
