Sickle-cell doesn't slow Holmes in Denver
Like Ryan Clark, Santonio Holmes, too, has the sickle-cell trait, which he only discovered this year. Unlike Clark, Holmes played in Denver two years ago without any adverse health problems other than one visiting players experienced for decades in Mile High Stadium. "I just had a lot of trouble breathing when I was up there last time," Holmes said yesterday. "I was in there before the game, I went out and I was trying to catch my breath and I couldn't do it, so I stayed in [the locker room] a little bit longer [before] coming out on the field."

good, this should be a very interesting game.
i think if Broncos get pounded again like they did against the Ravens, a lot of people will jump off the saddle

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic condition that shortens life expectancy, but it is one that requires both of the copies of the gene to be of the sickle variety. Sickle trait is a condition where only one of the copies is of the sickle variety and the other is normal. Under normal conditions, there are no negative consequences. However, at low oxygen levels, i.e. altitude, sickling can occur.

Ryan Clark lost both his spleen and his gall bladder last time he faced the Broncs in Denver. It hasn't been announced yet if he will play this week.

I thought sickle cell anemia was a disease from the 60's and 70's because haven't heard much of it much since then. Thought they had a cure for it.

Agree. Id rather see my steelers lose then lose a player. ****, Id rather have my team lose then have a player from a nother team die. But if Holmes is ok, hopefully he can go if it doesnt give him promblems.

I would agree no reason for Ryan Clark to take the risk of having more issues. Especially since it is only one game during the season.

I too am a huge Broncos fan, but issues like this go beyond games. I just wish him well and perhaps the the bright side is a new light can be shed on this disease that obviously, from this thread, has been all but forgotten. Never say never and hopefully someday we will be able to manipulate these cells out of existence.

Forget dying, it's not worth losing him for the rest of the season.
That's sarcasm, by the way.
He went to Mile High with the team, but they didn't let him play. I'm glad. I know he's competitive and he wouldn't have sat out on his own.
