University of Mississippi football fans who refuse to stop chanting "the South will rise again" are on the verge of losing one of their favorite fight songs, the school's chancellor said Monday. Ole Miss Chancellor Dan Jones said "From Dixie With Love" will no longer be played at games if fans continue the racially offensive chant.

Lose a few games change a tune piss of the fans really helps build community support.

What exactly is offensive in the chant. I live in the South. I'm aware of the background. And I want to know what is so offensive about those words.

"The south will rise again" is racial? I'm not from the south, but I take it to mean the "spirit" of the south. To say that is racial is beyond me and a perfect example of how far off base we've gone as a country.

Wasn't it President Lincoln who said "let the band play Dixie"

The South lost ... get over it!

November 3, 2009  10:45 AM ET

Yes the "Rebels" are going to drop their fight song like they've been dropping in the polls

I wish they played Dixie after the national anthem at every event.

As President, when asked to name his favorite popular tune, Lincoln did reply, "Dixie."
At an event marking the end to the war between the states, when prompted to request a song for the band to play, Lincoln did ask for "Dixie."
Perhaps, you refer to one of these?

This is a matter for Ol' Miss and her alumni. The context is internal. The rest of us are just distant observers.

Why wouldn't the major alumni fundraiser donators to Mississippi just voice their opinions. I would guess 99% of all donations are from white alumni successful and contributing to their university. Have they no say???

So the South ISN'T going to rise again? Oh well. All that Confederate money I have buried in the backyard will make nice wallpaper to go along with my GM stock notes.

"War between the States", Tin Man? You should know that the proper term is the "War of Northern Aggression".
(I'm kidding.)

Now might be a good time for Amos and Andy (sharpton and jackson) to get involved and suggest a couple of new tunes for the fine people who attend Mississippi football games.
