Stan Kroenke has increased his stake in Arsenal once again. The American businessman now owns 29.6 per cent of the shares in the north London club. Kroenke is now just 0.3 per cent - 209 shares - away from owning enough of the club to be obliged to make a formal takeover bid.

Go for it, Stan. Then we'll need someone to buy out Roman and we could own England's Big 4.

Though I wouldn't want to be that person. If he did take over as majority owner, every failure would fall on him and not so much the players or the coaching staff.

Kroenke isn't about spending money - hate to bust your bubble. He got rich by marrying one of Sam Walton's daughters (the best business decision he ever made) and he's all about spending only what he's forced to do on his sports teams, usually to the letter of whatever collective bargaining agreement currently in place. Ask Colorado Rapids fans how it's all working out.

Doesnt look like gooners in that pic to me!!

american majority owners in the EPL could help expedite the 39th(?) game in the states...or at least a more pronounced preseason.

this had been discussed... as the one ManUre fan better get his **** outta there.

at least it's better than EJ as Edu.. which i think we should boycott next time by not posting at all, similar to the 'he who must not be named' protest...especially after his last headline was about his frickin' beard!

Where's Colorado Gooner when you need him - he's got to be doing hand stands right about now. A more pronounced preseason would be a very good bet - get your Cesc gear at **** Sporting Goods Park.

**** D|ck's Sporting Goods Park ... I swear there was nothing phallic, thought police.

It would be great to see Arsenal change ownership, but not under these circumstances or to a man like this....as stated above, he is not about winning or losing, he is more of a nickle and dimer when it comes to sports.

I think the 39th game is dead at the moment. More likely, we'll see more English sides coming to the States for their preseason. It makes sense on a number of levels. More TV coverage through ESPN's coverage of the Premier League, plus the impending launch of ESPN Europa/Global/International/the Ocho. Training facilities in this country are second to none in most of the major cities. The stadiums are first rate and have no trouble selling out for a preseason friendly. In the future, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Community Shield played in the US instead of Wembley.

That's just a good idea. Plain and simple.

That would be very cool, and it makes loads of sense. I just wonder if the English FA would let such a tradtional event be exported.

When they changed the name from the 'Charity Shield' they lost some of the tradition anyway i always thought....its just a glorified friendly anyway, and one less meaningless game at Wembley wouldnt hurt, they could then have another NFL game there !!

will they really call it the Ocho or is that a running gag on FN from Dodgeball. (which was really the only funny joke in the entire movie)

But he does win, AN eon ago, his Rams won a Super Bowl, Rockies went to the World Series, He|| he even made the Nuggets a winner (no thanks to Vince McMahon). It does seem lately most of his teams while not quite bonafide WINNERS, they don't stink either....

can they have Ochocinco as an analyst too?!?!? Ya gotta admit, it would make sense given he is a football fan

Look, it makes sense for a couple of reasons. One, I can't remember the last time they sold out Wembley for that particular match. It appears to me they can get about 75% capacity for a match the supporters know is a glorified friendly. Why not move the match around various cities in the US? You'll get American supporters coming to see their team play for some silverware and I'm sure more than a few Brits will take a holiday to the States to watch their club play. Let ESPN have the US broadcast rights and sell it as the first time a major English trophy will be contested for on American soil. (Note: The real fans know this is total bulls--t. The Community Shield is useless as Maradona at a N.A. meeting. But this is the sort of thing that would actually bring in the casual fan. Really.)

Two, this is much more logical than the 39th league match idea. You get the big event feel that such an event needs. You get a global TV audience watching a match that kinda matters- err, it TOTALLY matters. Its the most important match EVER. (Sorry, the ESPN cattle prod was being threatened.) The toll on players is much less. The match is on a Sunday, right? They fly out a week prior, do training where ever, PR appearances, a couple of players on Leno or Letterman promoting it, play the match, go home that night. A full week of recovery before the season starts. If the FA was really concerned about fatigue, move the participating teams first match to Monday night instead of the Saturday afternoon.

One caveat I would love to see: matches take place in MLS cities, but not necessarily in MLS stadiums, Qwest and Gillette being the obvious exceptions. If some sort of weekend doubleheader extravaganza could be worked out, even better.

I ripped off the Ocho idea from Bill Simmons. Plagurism is the highest form of flattery.
