Browns may make another run at Accorsi

Those close to Eric Mangini said he is now very open to a real general manager coming on board, that he knows the front office lacks leadership. He knows the status quo can't continue. Despite the fact that Ernie Accorsi says he wants to stay retired, don't be surprised if the Browns try once more to convince the former Browns and Giants GM to take some type of role -- or at least help pick a new general manager. Accorsi was consulted before the hiring of George Kokinis. He had positive things to say about the former Ravens pro personnel director. But Accorsi's real choice for the job was Giants pro personnel man David Gettleman.

I agree...can we have some real stories?

They could do worse than taking Ernie's advice. Mangenius' suggestion sure as hell didn't work.

November 4, 2009  07:40 AM ET

He has made it clear that he is done with the game. said it two years ago and still means it. the browns need to keep looking.

I really like the Browns' chances this year...

November 4, 2009  07:57 AM ET

browns are the most zen like team in the nfl. they always start rebuilding at the beginning of the season and end the season rebuilding for the beginning of next season where they'll be beginning to rebuild..

Why the heck would Mangini's opinion matter? The guy hiring the GM, whether that is the owner or team president, should not be consulting the head coach, particularly if there is a chance that the coach could be fired this off season anyway.

Which is why the Browns are so screwed up. The owner took the HC's advice in hiring a GM.

Maybe Mangini should realize HE is more the problem than ownership or GM... he took the Jets into the tank and now did the same with the Browns. I didn't hear him screaming when they let Winslow jr, Edwards, or any of the others go so it leads me to believe he supported the decisions and now he can't coach so blame it on the GM....

For the sake of Browns fans, hopefully they dump Mangini and Lerner brings in someone to run the operation who is competent. They released a kicker yesterday, so I guess they did a bit more housecleaning yesterday, haha.

I think it's the train wreck theory. It's disgusting and terrible but you just have to look

My understanding was that that being allowed to choose the GM was a condition of Mangini's hire - he wanted to find his Scott Pioli to Mangini's Bill Belichik - the problem - Kokinis is no Pioli, and Mangini's certainly no Belichik

I don't care about the Browns, I want to what Favre had for dinner last night. I need to know if Plax's prison coach helped him adjust to life in the can. Oh, I REALLY need to know when TO is going to implode and suck all of Buffalo into a quantum singularity!

Please FN, give us real threads that people really care about!!

They rushed on the hire...the Browns are really in a mess...probably the worst situation in the NFL.

Well, other than having Al Davis as their owner.
