Colorado RB wants to play for UCLA

Tailback Darrell Scott created so much fanfare by signing a national letter of intent with Colorado in February 2008, it's a wonder Boulder didn't throw a ticker-tape parade along the Pearl Street Mall. Tuesday, Scott left the program and said he hopes to join his uncle, former CU wide receiver Josh Smith, at UCLA. Scott, 6-feet-1 and 215 pounds, was rated as the nation's No. 1 prep running back prospect after rushing for 2,433 yards and 33 touchdowns in 2007 as a senior at St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif. He picked CU over Texas after a heated recruiting battle that drew national attention.

Getting stomped every week will make one want to leave ...

This is a very interesting move. This kid was THE RB coming out of HS and his move to Colorado was eyebrow raising. He was suppose to light up the field with his talent. So far, he's been a dud. Let's see if a move to UCLA will help but I am going to say, no it won't. My guess there is something between his ears that is causing him not to blossom in college, imho. Too bad he doesn't play QB because UCLA desperately needs a solid QB.

Lost playing time to a 2-star recruit, mainly because of injuries and problems with blocking in pass protection schemes.

CU's running backs coach said he plans to recruit at least two tailbacks "that want to be here, and know there will be ups and downs and you just have to fight through them."

Gotta disagree with you on this one... I think this kid is going to be the stud back at UCLA once he clears eligibilty... I'm not a big slick rick fan, but I think Rick can pull out whatever you think it is between his ears...just needs a change of venue and coeds

everybody wants to play for the best team

November 4, 2009  08:28 AM ET

He went to CU for the wrong reasons. Playing with Uncky Josh was a big factor. Now with him gone it's gotta be lonely in frigid Co. without him. I thought the uncle left to start a rap career or singing career. Didn't know he ended up in CA.

Man would he have looked good in burnt orange. Texas leading rusher only has about 300 yards so if he could play he would be playing. But to date, yeah a bust. He's only a soph though so he's got time.

Ouch, when your team sucks so bad the guy wants to leave for UCLA

November 4, 2009  09:18 AM ET

If he goes from CU to UCLA at least it's a lateral move. Definitely not a promotion.

And he is going to UCLA because????

I suspect his reasons for leaving involve a bit more than is or will be revealed by posts here, insightful or otherwise.

I would bet it has something to do with following his Uncle. Again.

This should teach any recruit who choses to got to CU versus UT a huge lesson.

Southern California kid and that's where his Uncle is. He followed him out to Colorado and now he follows him back home.

I know Stewart beat him out at Colorado, but the few Buffaloes games I did get to see I thought Scott performed well enough to deserve more carries.

November 4, 2009  11:27 AM ET

Why would he want to transfer from Colorado? They're just a couple of players away from competing for national championships.
Hey, the coach finally realized his son wasn't working out. Maybe he can make some more good decisions.

November 4, 2009  11:46 AM ET

Does he have to sit a year now? what is he the 2nd string running back at CU??

What does a CU coach have to do with this? They'll all be gone next year, regardless of how many tailbacks they recruit. As a Husker fan, I should be loving this, but I just feel sorry for the folks in Boulder...
