They don't call them the Fightin' Phils for nothing. Phillies pitchers Cole Hamels and Brett Myers had a verbal altercation after Game 5 of the World Series on Monday, according to an Internet report. Now the Phillies are dealing with the fallout while trying to prepare for tonight's Game 6. The Phillies deny there was any altercation, saying Myers was joking with Hamels. But according to a Yahoo Sports report, Myers walked past Hamels and said, "What are you doing here? I thought you quit." A witness told Yahoo that Hamels then responded with an expletive, and that a team official ushered Myers away.

Go Phillies!!!

November 4, 2009  07:05 AM ET

according to an Internet report

Nice source, Post. Where did you get it from, some 13 year old's blog? Plus, Ken Rosenthal, who never met a story he didn't print, heard the "altercation" and decided it wasn't worth even writing down.

I love how the Post is trying to continue this story, a day later, plus they don't bother posting the whole quote. Here's a piece from the Yahoo Sports story the Post is talking about:

"Casterioto said he then pulled Hamels away from Myers because he had a meeting with manager Charlie Manuel, not because he believed the situation would escalate."

NY Post, you just plain suck.

Good move by Meyers to try and fire Hammels up by pissing him off. The Phils may need him.

November 4, 2009  07:37 AM ET

Hamels looks like Mrs Myers after their latest beatdown.

November 4, 2009  07:41 AM ET

Someone needed to give Hamels that comment no matter what.

Phillies in 7!!

What would we comment on without their "contributions", Schad?

Jus' kidding - they are terrible!!!

November 4, 2009  07:45 AM ET

Of course they're going to deny it.

November 4, 2009  07:55 AM ET

Why does this story have a picture of Keanu Reeves?

Dealing with fallout, what fallout? Their season rides on Pedro tonight, and if they get by that, I'd hope Cliff Lee would at least pitch the first 4 or 5 innings in game 7. Hamels and Lidge have gone from saviors to complete liabilities. Of course this is a Post article, quoting Yahoo, who heard "an observer" say stuff. Typical NY media non-story crapola. Awesome show great job!

Hamels looks like an emo Beoatch.....wonder if he cuts himself...morning all

November 4, 2009  07:55 AM ET

If they get to Game 7, I'm getting all I can out of Lee... and Hamels doesn't see the mound.

No doubt, then, Girardi knows Andy Pettitte is 4-6 with a 4.15 earned run average when pitching on three days' rest, according to baseball-reference.com. The Yankees' manager also knows Pettitte hasn't pitched on three days' rest since 2006, and that Pettitte is 37 years old.

Ugh, of all the papers in the country, for some reason FN interns have some serious man-love for the Post.

Or the fact, that Pedro has managed to catch lightning in a bottle for a few games, but will probably be knocked around the park....The Yankees got to Lee for a few runs in his second start, and I dont think Pedro is anywhere near his level at this point of his career. If the Yankees get any hitting from Cano, Tex or swisher they win , plus the fact that you will now have Posada back in the line up (good luck Pedro ). I cant wait for the sox fans reactions

Hamels has talent. He unfortunately doesn't have the macho attitude needed at a time when his team needs him the most. He is on top of the world when things go right but this season has not been a good one for him. He got caught up in the post WS victory fanfare and has never been the same since. I never really liked him personally but he did do the job last season and was instrumental in the Phillies winning the WS. Myers is a caveman but he does have the FU mentality concerning his opponents. As a Phillies fan I am trully afraid to give Hamels the chance to pitch in game 7. It is obvious when things are about to go wrong for him. He begins to talk in his glove when he doesn't hit his spots or when the ump doesn't give him the calls he wants. Charlie has to remove him from the game immediately when he sees these signs. Honestly Hamels is only good for the first 3 innings. Start him and take your chances with the pen. Beginning with Lee, sore arm or not. I'd insert Lee and ride him till his arm falls off. What is there to lose. He can rest the entire off season. I beleive we are all gonna see baseball history in the making. Phils do the impossible and win this series at the expense of the high priced whining Stankees!! Go fightens!

Girardi's latest decision is that he's going to catch. he wants to make Andy feel younger.

yanks better win tonight..anything can happen in game 7...and girardi will face the guillatene (sp) if they lose.

for someone that handled the staff perfectly towards the end of the season to set it up nicely for the playoffs he has really fugged it up.

Yeah, I think the Yanks throw everything out there tonight.

They love the NY Post and the Boston Globe, ie the two worst big-market rags in the world. The Post is always baseless crap, and the Globe sports articles all sound like they're written by that clown-shoe that does Pocket Money on NESN.

I would think that Philly fans should be more worried about game 6 at the moment
