Senators owner Eugene Melnyk shouldn't count on a Christmas card from Dany Heatley with a $4-million check inside. An NHL source told Sun Media yesterday the Senators' owner faces "long odds" if he thinks he can recoup a July 1 $4-million bonus he paid to the disgruntled winger, who refused to waive his no-movement clause to accept a trade to the Edmonton Oilers.

Good luck with that. Your team signed him to that contract with that clause and now it turns around and bites you in the backside.

Well Eugene looks like it cost 4 million to stop the bleeding. No way the NHLPA lets this happen. They fought for these things and even though Dannys a goof the Sens wont be getting a dime back.Maybe toss some money to a charity Dan.

He wont win in court.

If there was any justice in this world, the dog turd should be forced to return that stolen money. But, when a guy has a team mate's death on his conscience, $4 million is feather light by comparison.

Ahhhh... as a Sharks fan, this all makes me sooo happy.

Justice in the world? Nope.

Dog feces? Yup.

Forced to return shekels? Not likely.

But the Snyder comment really has nothing to do with the price of eggs.

No he won't ... I don't know why he is even trying. It's in a signed contract.

November 4, 2009  10:48 AM ET

shouldn't have given the guy a no-movement clause...

November 4, 2009  10:55 AM ET

Next time don't sign guys to contracts like this. What's the point of the roster bonus payment anyway...

November 4, 2009  11:08 AM ET

Dumb and Bumber - make that Beatley.

November 4, 2009  11:08 AM ET

If a Players Association existed, they should tell Heatley to offer back a portion before this screws the rest of the membership in the next CBA. Sadly the NHL has no PA.

Just his state of mind, that's all.

November 4, 2009  11:59 AM ET

Well he should have put that in the trade deal. If you want to leave then I want my money back. It would have been that simple. They could have buried him in the AHL until he agreed to terms, how long do you think he would have lasted down there.

November 4, 2009  12:29 PM ET

The Leafs went through this with McCabe, who had a roster bonus coming due. He basically said if they wanted him to waive his no-trade, they'd have to wait until the day after the bonus payout date. They did. He did. Now he's a Panther. Frankly I didn't mind McCabe's stance - not only because he had a valid contract, but because he was at least honest about it! Heatley just makes me want to take a shower.

November 4, 2009  12:54 PM ET

This just in. Melnyk is also filing a grievance against Mike Comrie because Hillary Duff no longer attends Sens games.

November 4, 2009  12:56 PM ET

That guy is losing a lot of fans. Heatley is a bum, ya he can score in the regular season but he disappears in the playoffs. He shouldn't even be considered to play for canada at the olympics. They should make him play for his home country of Germany.

It doesnt count against the cap so he shouldnt cry too much about it.
