Al Davis ready to fire Cable?

Al Davis has to be embarrassed by the recent reports about Tom Cable's alleged history of violence against women, and Al is justifiably proud about his public and private stances against such behavior. He surely is readying a case to fire Cable "for cause." He knows that his franchise, even as low as it has sunk, will be better off without this baggage. But Davis also knows that Cable will be his second coach fired "for cause" in 14 months, after the Raiders sliced out Lane Kiffin in September last year. If Davis continues to hesitate on the decision to fire Cable during this bye week, he is telling us hat he can't pull the trigger on a coach accused of multiple instances of violence, many toward women.

Hehehehehe!!!

He's a woman beater... Breaks one of his coaches Jaw... Good thing he didn't kick the dog.

Al Davis has to be embarassed about anything that's happened in the last 8 years. Cable and his crap almost gets lost in the noise.

I think the real title should be "Al Davis ready to die yet?"

November 4, 2009  08:48 AM ET

he should fire Cable and himself........ ride off into the sunset

Why go through all this nonsense? Why don't they put a clause in the contract that lets the owner can a coach when his team just sucks, and the coach doesn't improve things?

Al is probably delusional enough to believe that he'll have good coaches beating a path to his tomb once the job opens up. Good luck, Al. The reason you've had to settle for third-world guys like Kiffin and Cable is that nobody wants to work for you.

I think Al should just shamble on down from his crypt and coach the team himself for the rest of the season. Maybe that will show him how bad he has made this franchise. I could see him calling to the bench to get Plunkett or Allen in there!

Damn, we think alike today

If he gets canned, Craig Hudson of Lugoff, South Carolina should be the head coach. Who is you ask? Just a fan and long time member in good standing of Raider Nation. Sure give him a chance. Al calls all the shots anyway. Not many football want that job, so give it to Craig. Contact the Raider organization and give a vote of confidence for Hudson.

How do Raider fans still root for that team? Why not switch to San Diego, or some other mismanaged franchise?

November 4, 2009  09:02 AM ET

And the raider mystyque continues.....

As an original AFL fan, i wonder what has happened to the the once proud franchise. Is it Davis's fault or is it his loyalty to the players and fans in the area. Sad to think that the face of the AFL is now the floormat of the NFL. Fire the cable guy, he has proven to be a thug in a coaches vestment. When you look at him on Tv, one can only think how many beers has he had. Al get rid of him.

November 4, 2009  09:05 AM ET

At this point keep Cable. A thug team needs a thug coach.

Heard on CBS Radio here in New York that layoffs are occurring at Sports illustrated this morning? sorry to hear about this!!

November 4, 2009  09:07 AM ET

I mean what's there to say that 99.99999% of football fans
don't already know ?

November 4, 2009  09:07 AM ET

Better yet send Cable to the University Of Florida to really teach eye gougin, Jaw breaking, and wife/woman beating that would elevate the team to higher greatness an in house THUG, meyer will love him

November 4, 2009  09:09 AM ET

20 years ago he slapped his wife for cheating on him during an argument - nobody knows the details of that altercation; what was really said and done, and most recently he would not let his ex-girlfriend in his house so he removed her from it. Not letting an unwanted person in your home is your right - whatever it takes. True - he never should have punched that coach. But this violence against women thing is a bunch of crap. He had a wh*re for a wife 20 years ago, and a gold digger g/f. Cut the man some slack.

November 4, 2009  09:11 AM ET

being the senile old fool he is, Davis would fire Cable at the end of the season anyway. Doesnt Al Davis have some sort of internal rule that he must fire a head coach a year, and then hire someone more unqualified than the guy before?
by the way, doesnt he look like hes loaded on embalming fluid in that picture?

November 4, 2009  09:21 AM ET

This picture is always funny.

Al needs to fire himself ...
