The University of Florida football staff is asking SEC officials to review what they claim was a missed late hit in the Saturday game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Florida head coach Urban Meyer says officials missed a late hit on quarterback Tim Tebow by Georgia linebacker Nick Williams. "That should have been a penalty, in my opinion," Meyer told reporters Wednesday during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference. "That's right in front of the referee."

So that's what we do now? Complain about penalties that weren't called? Georgia had a pretty legit gripe when Spikes attempted to gouge out Ealey's eyes, so Florida comes back with this? Not even a dirty hit, but a late one? Let it go, Meyer. Act like the bigger team for once.

I can see an 'Urban' renewal in 2 or 3 years...

... meaning, Meyer will move on to an NFL challenge.

His ego is huge enough for him to take his Mickey Mouse offense to the pros... where it will attain the same result as Lou Holtz's and Steve Spurrier's.

what good does it do now? A really really late flag thrown?

November 5, 2009  07:51 AM ET

Like starting a campfire to divert the attention away from the forest fire. He needs to move on to Capital Hill.

If you would have done the right thing with Spikes initially Urb, this would have gone away. That joke of a suspension you handed out is your own damn fault. One of your best players got caught trying to gouge out someone's freakin eye. Maybe as good a football player as he is, he might also be just that stupid.

That would have to be a huge ego to go down that road. I gotta believe that coaches learned a lot from the Spurrier fiasco.

Did Spurrier learn from Holtz?...

... there are tremendous egos involved man.

Besides, not all college coaches fail.

Remember, Bill Walsh was at Stanford, John Robinson was at USC...

Walsh attained ultimate success (Super Bowl) and Robinson had moderate success (consistent playoff teams).

Look like The Pope is taking a page from Spurrier who use to cry repeatedly about FSU hitting Wuerfful late....

Wahhhhhhhhh!!

November 5, 2009  08:57 AM ET

Get off the cross Meyer someone else needs the wood. Big baby.

November 5, 2009  09:12 AM ET

Complaining about another penalty... It's getting tiring. Meyer won't get "reprimanded" anyway like Kiffin or the MSU coach.

I so wish everyone would just **** about that... Apparently none of you have ever played football, or know anyone who ever has... That crap and alot worse happens in the scrum from HighSchool to the NFL.

I'm so anxious to see if the new SEC rules on speaking out against the officials apply the chosen one.

Actually we, UGA, didn't even gripe about the gouge...that was just something that was caught on youtube. In fact Mark Richt and even Ealey (the eye gouge victim) said they understood...it's a tough game, it's a rivarly, it happens.

Why in the world Urban is coming out with this now, I have no idea. Especially when Mark Richt defended Spikes.

I'm with you, Ramone.

That was one chippy game, even for Florida-Georgia standards. Live and let live I think is everyone's answer to that game...

But what the f is Meyer thinking with this move? Of course he's an incredibly cocky dude, but I've never seen him make a bad political step. To come out with this on a Wednesday means it's a calculated step, not emotional.

IMO, it's completely uncalled for. I'll be interested to see what happens. No Spikes AND no Meyer v Vandy?

That would even the spread a bit!

November 5, 2009  09:40 AM ET

Obviously the ref had something in his eye.

November 5, 2009  10:04 AM ET

What shall we name the SEC? The unsportsman conference or the whining conference? I'll stick with the much over rated conference. How about the national championship game being Oregon/Florida. No penalties for unsportsmanship and the winner will be cleared of all sins.

Complaining after the fact will never get results it will only make you look silly...

Jimmy "there are no East Carolinas in the NFL" Johnson. If he stays the Boys get 4-5 straight. Instead he leaves, Switzer screws things up and squeaks out a 3rd before Jerry trashes the team. Boys haven't been back since andhaven't won a playoff game since 96.

I didn't say it doesn't happen. We all know (especially those of us who played past pee-wee) it does. But back then there were not cameras everywhere. Spikes is a dummy.
