Iverson frustrated coming off bench

The Memphis Grizzlies started their game against the Golden State Warriors with Allen Iverson still on the bench. And after the Grizzlies lost again, Iverson's feelings about not starting also remained unchanged. Iverson totaled 18 points, seven assists and four turnovers in a respectable 27-minute performance during the Grizzlies' 113-105 loss on Wednesday. But while his playing time increased by 10 minutes from his debut two nights earlier in Sacramento, Iverson still wasn't happy about two things: He came off the bench. And the Grizzlies lost. No one, Iverson said, should be surprised by his frustration, even Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins.

Uh-oh.. here we go again. This is just gonna be like Detroit, only much worse coz they'll be losing a lot more often.

You made your bed, Grizzlies ... time to lay in it. You knew this was gonna happen but you signed him anyway. Within 3 months, the team will be in shambles, losses will be piling up, Hollins will be shown the door and the losing spirit will be alive and well in Memphis.

Lay with fleas...

November 5, 2009  07:47 AM ET

if he was positive he could really help their starting point guard learn the game...

November 5, 2009  07:57 AM ET

better than coming out of the closet I guess

It makes you wonder about the Grizzles future. A lot of young talent and they decide to add this. I still think they may go the way of the Clippers. By that I mean have a lot of young talented players passing through and the team going nowhere.

A.I upset by the fact that he is coming off the bench, he is a humble man, I was hoping he was going to be the 6th man of the year and earn good sportsmanship award. (Sarcasm)

November 5, 2009  08:11 AM ET

Iverson is at the stage of his career where he'd be a perfect "microwave" type of sixth man...

... what Vinnie Johnson added to Detroit and what Bob McAdoo added to the early 80's Lakers.

A guy off the bench for instant offense.

Step 1 - AI goes to Denver and does not play up to par (or, simply does not fit in as a good teammate).

Step 2 - AI goes to lesser contender Detroit. He sometimes starts, and other times comes off the bench. He whines and complains.

Step 3 - AI traded down to lesser contender Memphis. His season starts with him coming off the bench. He whines and complains.

What's Step 4 (and 5, etc) ? Let's speculate:

Step 4 - AI traded down to lesser contender NY Knicks or LA Clippers. He comes off the bench. He whines and complains.

Step 5 - AI waived and goes to Europe to play for a team. He comes off the bench and whines and complains.

Step 6 - AI comes back to US and plays in the NBDL. He is finally given a starting role, but quits because he is not making NBA-caliber salary.

Step 7 - AI begs to have another chance to play in the NBA. He finally accepts role coming off the bench.

How's that ? Hehehe :)

Not even remotely possible...

He is positive... he wants to help their starting guard to the bench and take his spot.

Of that he is absolutely certain.

If they let this guy play for the last 45 minutes in a game and they went on a 10 game win streak he would still **** and complain that he should be STARTING.

It's those missing 3 minutes at the start of game make all the difference in the world.

Could it ever be more about anything than himself in this clowns mind?

November 5, 2009  08:53 AM ET

I used to really like AI back in the day...it's sad when you make Stephon Marbury look like a team player.

November 5, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Worst role model in sports?

November 5, 2009  08:54 AM ET

The league would be a better place if Iverson started hanging out with Latrel Sprewell. Hopefully in some far away country where he is never heard from again. But I know it won't happen.

Maybe someone should spike Iverson's gatorade with whatever they slipped into Z-Bo's drink that made him dish out 10 assists in 2 games. That must be a miracle drug, right?

Im afraid this will be the end of 1 of the toughest PG's this sport has ever seen!! He's going to get cut and no team is going to sign him and he's goin to be forced into retirement! Sad very sad!!

Step 8: AI joins Marbury underneath the overpass and they can continually discuss how great they are...

Yeah it is kinda sad...Makes me want to want to take down all my Memphis Grizzlies gear from my cubicle....Then again...he won't have to worry about a job...there will always be a vacancy for him in the NBA Jackass Alumini...

Not sure why A.I. signed with the Grizz anyway, it's not like they are going to compete for a title. A.I. should have signed with a team that matters but it seems that he 'disrupts' the flow when he gets in the mix. Man up A.I. u have a long season ahead and it probably won't get much better from here.
