Clippers owner to pay in discrimination case

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling agreed to pay $2.73 million this week to settle a federal case alleging he discriminated in the rental of apartments he owns with his wife in Southern California. It stems from allegations Sterling's company targeted and discriminated against blacks, Hispanics and families with children in renting apartments in greater Los Angeles. The NBA said it has no plans to investigate or comment, according to a spokesman. Other owners have been silent. The NBA Player's Association has had no reaction and did not respond to messages. The players themselves have, best I can find, said nothing.

Worst owner in professional sports - hands down.

He didn't discriminate against Blacks, Hispanics or families with children at all... everybody has it wrong.

He just told his company not to rent to very tanned people... or people who speak languages he doesn't speak... or to groups of people with very short family members

Totally different

Too bad Sterling doesn't discriminate against lousy coaches...

Haha! Good to add some levity to a pretty sickening allegation.

If you don't like blacks, hispanics, and families with children in LA you are down to about 2% of the population haha.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Sterling needs to start buying apartments in Vermont or something, not LA.

Ha! And everybody gets mad cuz Limbaugh wants to buy the Rams!

I say it again...This organization is cursed....I don't know if Donald Sterling has a buried 2nd rounder in his back-yard, I don't know if the San Diego fans put it on them for their abysmal perfomance there, I don't even know if God almighty threw it on them for drafting Danny Ferry and reinforced with the selection of Michael Olawakandi...I just don't know why it is..

I do know that whatever this team touches turns to crap quite quickly....

Not only does Sterling discriminate against Blacks, Hispanics, and families with children. He also discriminates against successful franchises, competent management, and basketball players.

November 5, 2009  10:39 AM ET

Why can't you discriminate against families with children, there's an apartment complex couple of miles from my house with signs that say no children allowed, is that not legal?(I honestly don't know thats why I ask)

Don't forget the discrimination against fans and their right to see a good product on the court...

Doesn't the NBA have a code of conduct for owners? This isn't the first time Sterling's been hit for discrimination, and to be an owner of a team in a league that's vastly populated by minorities, you'd think Stern would get off his ass and do something. Tis a perfect opportunity to rid himself of Sterling "for cause".

Absolutely! The only exception is a senior citizen complex, where you have to be 62. Otherwise most states don't allow it.
