Blount's reinstatement on hold?

Oregon coach Chip Kelly said after Wednesday's practice that he had yet to start the "chain of command" regarding the possible reinstatement of LeGarrette Blount. Kelly said he hadn't "made anything yet," and said no official recommendation has been sent to athletic director Mike Bellotti. Bellotti would then forward the information to university president Richard Lariviere, who would send it to the ultimate decision-maker, Pacific-10 Conference commissioner Larry Scott.

Our daily Blount story.

That's it now make the kid squirm in the mud and wait. Either make the decision to play him immediately or tell him he's finsihed at Oregon. That's not leadership Kelly is displaying that is lording oversomeone lesser than him. Play or go simple decision but great press nationally for Oregon to string along and milk.

Government bureaucracy at it's finest

November 5, 2009  11:13 AM ET

It's bad enough that Oregon and Coach kelly had a total rush to judgment in throwing Blount under the bus for the sake of the University, thereby ending his hopes of professional football. Now, the coach is exerting his power by stringing him along, giving him hope, then taking the dream away again.

Bellotti & Kelly are very much deceiving the public. I would never ever have my son commit to a program that doesn't have the best interests of its player's at heart. Blount needs forgiveness & reinstatement. Anything short of that is wrong at this point.

Kelly is milking his time in the limelight. I hope they lose now and big.

November 5, 2009  12:16 PM ET

You people are so full of it. What do you "really" know about the Blount situation. Kelly is
not milking anything. Consider this: Maybe they have a plan. Maybe everyone on the team knows
the plan but not the general public. Maybe Blount and his team were told that they will submit this up the chain today or tomorrow. Maybe the Pac 10 and everyone involved has signed off on everything. Maybe he is reinstated already and he suits up and plays in the game Saturday and no formal announcement is ever made. Maybe this puts less pressure on Blount and his team mates doing it this way. Maybe everything I have written here is wrong. One thing is certain, Chip Kelly is a top drawer coach who has no ego involved in this matter.

I think The Raiders are eyeballing Blount as their next head coach.

While not his wife, I am unlike you, I have a brain and use it periodically.

November 5, 2009  12:22 PM ET

Blount has ZERO blame in any of this. If Kelly was a better coach, BSU would not have utterly dominated Oregon and Blount....therefore Blount wouldn't have been so upset and punched someone. Thanks Chip!

November 5, 2009  12:46 PM ET

every time I hear about Blount I get confused and ask: what kind of leaf was used to roll that blunt? mmm, blunt.....

You first 4 posters are just flapping your lips, spewing your ill-informed opinions. The decision to reinstate Blount is his decision and Coach Kelly's. They have set in place specific academic, team, and civic measures that Blount must meet in order to get him reinstated. Blount and Kelly meet with AD Bellotti, then it goes up to UO President Lariviere, then to PAC 10 Commissioner. There's a chain of decision making, as stated in the news post, in getting Blount back on the field. He wants to play, he practices every time the team does, and the team wants him back. It looks like Blount and Kelly aren't ready to present their case up the "chain" yet. Let's see what happens instead of being uninformed jurists, tossing out ignorant opinions?

November 5, 2009  01:39 PM ET

For all who didn't bother to watch Kelly's original October 2nd press conference, he said that the Stanford game was the EARLIEST Blount could return. There was never a guarantee it would be this Saturday. The PAC10 commiss has already spoken with Blount, Belotti was seen talking to Blount a couple days ago. It's not like he's being hung out to try here.

Mondo Jay: "If Kelly was a better coach" REALLY? They have a bad loss on Kelly's FIRST GAME as a head coach, and he's somehow a bad coach? If that's the case, then Pete Caroll must have been downright awful to lose 5 times his first season.

November 5, 2009  01:57 PM ET

Do they have to contact the warden at the Insane Asylum to get Blount a weekend pass or something? I hope one of the Ducks 10,000 uniforms are Silver and Black with a raider logo on it, that would be great for Blount's return. He reminds me of the old days with Lyle Alzado and John Matoozak chasing referees down the halls in the locker room for blowing calls and then raping them.

Commitment to Excellence-- Strictly enforced.

November 5, 2009  01:59 PM ET

Sandy, had that been said from anybody else I might dignify it with a response.

November 5, 2009  03:02 PM ET

Screw him, he's a punk. They obviously don't need him to win.

November 5, 2009  04:04 PM ET

I place all of the blame on the coach concerning this matter. The kid something that needed a punishment. The coach blew his cool and said, that's it, you're suspended for the rest of the season, thus ending his playing, but said that the kid still go to practices and school on the scholarship. I believe the penalty should have been about 4-5 games along with probation for the year just in case he screwed up again. The kid made his statement saying how sorry he was, etc. Now the coach comes out a couple weeks ago and says we're going to ask about getting him back on the team. The commish goes up there for the game this past week and to talk with people, but I guess didn't because the coach hadn't done the paperwork or whatever. Now the kid sits there wondering what is going on as does the rest of the team and conf. Either let him back on or tell him it's over. With his past playing time I think he will probably get into the nfl, but won't be up at the top. The coach needs to follow that old saying, either go to the bathroom or get off the pot!! Different words, but same meaning. Needs to be resolved quickly for our sakes also. Tried of seeing all the articles!!!!

November 5, 2009  04:07 PM ET

Kelly has totally lost control of the whole situation. Kid suspended for rest of the season but allowed to practice daily, there had to be some interior motive right there. Now they are winning some games and the other backs being worn down, Kelly thinks hey let's bring Blount back and get him in there again. Now they are stringing the kid and fans along in anticpation or angst about the return. Confusing.
