It's only Day 2 of life with Phil Kessel in the Maple Leafs lineup, and already it appears he'll be taking on a new linemate in Toronto's next game in Carolina on Friday. Acknowledging he doesn't have a wealth of sharp shooters, Leafs head coach Ron Wilson said after practice on Wednesday that he feels center John Mitchell -- who has no goals and five assists in 13 games this season -- could mesh well with his new star.

Hagman might work out on the left side

Kessel-Grabovski-Hagman I think this would be a good line to try out.

They can't once they returned him to the OHL he must finish the year there. They can call him up after the OHL season is over.

Huh? Is Kessel going to feed the puck to Mitchell? Or, is Mitchell going to feed the puck to Kessel? Hmph!

Maybe he wants to be called "Ocho-Uno" from now on.

I think the idea is to get him a big physical centre to create more space for Kessel in the shooting lanes. The concept is sound but the Leafs just don't have the personnel to do it. Mitchell is a good 4th line centre at best.

Either way Wilson will just keep tinkering with his line combos until he fines a good fit.

November 5, 2009  11:05 AM ET

Ponikarovsky on the left side with Stajan at centre might be a good combo for Kessel. Pony is a big guy (6-4 220lbs) he just needs to be more physical.

Sheeesh! Your cure is worse than the disease! Poni K more physical? Are U serious? You might get better results asking Kessel to be more physical!

November 5, 2009  12:01 PM ET

can't get much more physical than poni. then put the ultra physical blake. blake at least hits the goalies on the shootout

They can recall him at any time, the only restriction is the amount of games he can play before his contracts kicks in. They just want Kadri to get some more playing time in the O and they want to wait for him to put on a little more size.

Speed kills and the Leafs have an abundance of speed. I would love to see Kessel with Stalberg and Grabovski, just let them fly.

That's if he was sent to the Marlies. Since he went back to jr A he cant brought back until his team is out of the playoffs.

Pony instead of Mitchell is what I was getting at since it appears they are looking for size on the top line

Grabovski doesn't pass.
