Danica Patrick is nearing completion of a two-year contract with JR Motorsports, the NASCAR Nationwide Series operation owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., and a source close to the negotiations described them as "in the final phase." The partnership is expected to make its on-track debut during next February's Daytona Speedweeks.

the migration from sport to travelling circus continues to build momentum.

Finally a worthy story today!
Let's set back and watch the Tards comment.

whether the tards want to believe it not, but this is good news for Nascar. By the way, I just want to say congrats to Kelley Earnhardt, you are quite the business woman; maybe you can get DEI back from the clutches of doom.

Whoever picked that picture, fire him. Please. That said, Danica Patrick is a huge draw (huger if somebody would pick attractive pictures of her ... they do exist). Good for NASCAR.

What does DEI have to do with this? JR Motorsports is not related

November 5, 2009  08:26 AM ET

DEI is no more! Who would want it now?

November 5, 2009  08:28 AM ET

This really isn't a bad move. She can still drive IRL and then race Nationwide on the off IRL weekends to gradually get her the experience in the stockcars.

November 5, 2009  08:37 AM ET

over/under dnf's by her 10th start...6?

November 5, 2009  08:37 AM ET

Danika might of just found her new Big Daddy!?!?

November 5, 2009  08:53 AM ET

I respect Danica for going to the Nationwide instead of being so arrogant that she wanted to start in Sprint right away,,
I can't wait for the Jr. and Danica haters to start talking about this story.. It is a two for one today!!!

November 5, 2009  08:53 AM ET

Guess they have to do something to boost ratings and draw in an audience. My guess is Nationwide will have better ratings than Cup next season. Too bad she will be driving for Jr. That is like getting your first nail in your coffin before you even turn over the engine!

Who are the tards? The people that would like to see genuine racing on Sunday? Or talentless celebrities that sell t-shirts and advertising? Why not put Paris Hilton in Cup car and let her smack the wall a few times. I feel sorry for the talented drivers that are trying to make a way for themselves but don't have the T & A to spread across the internet like this two-bit talentless w h or e.

Its about time nascar gets a woman driver. And hay isn't any publicity good publicity.

maybe float was talking about Kelly. Is Danica a fan of fish tacos?

November 5, 2009  09:05 AM ET

And this is the replacement for Brad Kezelowski? She looks a heck of alot better, but still can't drive worthy of a spot in NASCAR! Enjoy the eyecandy boys!

DEI (or the DEI Marketing Dept at earnhardt/ganassi) is still busy as hell, selling and marketing anything they can produce with the number 3 on it. As for the racing end, "I think I'm Japanese-sah, I really think so...."
