Rumblings in league circles are that, unless the Fire makes a substantial playoff run, Denis Hamlett will not return next season. Preki en route?

i'll take Oter's opinion on this...

I'm more surprised that Preki would be leaving Chivas... than I am that Chicago would dump Hamlett for him.

I said this when the Fire lost in the Superliga final (I think?), Chicago needs a trophy. Next year would be a great year to transition in a new coach, since it looks like Blanco will be leaving and Rolfe will be in Denmark. Oter is there a possibility of McBride retiring? Either way, good time to transition in a new coach.

My questions is: what does "substantial playoff run" mean? My guess, is MLS Cup Final.

What...I thought for sure with this T&R FN would use a picture of Richie Williams...after all, for what seems to be a daily occurrence, when it comes to coaching rumors in MLS, his picture is right there waiting.

Like I said yesterday (you can look it up on this site if you want to), Preki looks like he's ready to make a move and may be taking Jesse Marsch as his number two. Oter was pretty thrilled about it, if I remember correctly.

that is the question isnt it :D

Hauptman has been stated to not liking the state things are in. Rumors inside claim he feels the team is underperforming... SHOCKER i know.... EVEN IF DH wins the MLS cup he might not be back with the Fire... his job is totally in the hands of Hauptman and whether he can find better options... Hopefully we see Preki leading the Fire into 2010...

I love what blanco brought to the team and he's capable of magic at any time, but he wants to retire in Mexico and wants to play another season in Chicago. But does he have enough gas in the tank?? would it be wiser to get a new DP who can bring similar aspects but is more athletic and can go a whole 90 min game in game out?? Yes, Blanco did well with the fire but i suspect his tenure is up... the league has caught onto his anticts and style of play and can take him out of the equation.

Rolfe will SORELY be missed :(

BMB might retire, but its also very likely he'll stick around another season... the FIRE better offer him a job somewhere in the FO or with the coaching staff...

Either way the Fire need a major face lift. We have the BEST team on paper, but they rarely perform like they should. Not to mention various reports from unnamed players that there is a rift between coach and some players. Hopefully DH ends on a solid note, but most fans are hoping for a replacement... this was our year and we failed at all levels...

the point of Preki leaving CUSA comes from the OLD posts of when Chivas talked about bringing in a Chivas Asst. manager to run things. Basically claiming they could push Preki out at any moment.... i am CERTAIN preki has been looking for options since...

In particular, I really like Marsch's potential to become a great manager...

I think it's rooted more in how I heart Preki, as a player and a coach. Preki unemployed? Just a scary thought... even if it's only for a day. He's in a small group of people that understand how the game should be played, and the strength of American players... and then is able to translate it to on-field success. If he goes to Chicago, hopefully he performs like Sigi going to Seattle... and not Osario going to RBNY... it'd be a damn shame to lose him in the shuffle.

Preki is the complete opposite of DH...

he makes the undermaned team play above their level.... for years he battled injuries and yet still capable of putting forth a solid side...

DH takes a roster heavy team and scrapes the bottom of the barrell (yes i know its a bit harsh)

we lose to a USL2 team in USOC, we fail to take 1st in Superliga in our own house, we fail to play consistently game after game forcing us out of the SS race, and now we go into the 2nd leg down 2-1.... DH has taken a MLS side that should have been one of the greats and put forth a mediocre display...

November 5, 2009  10:53 AM ET

Wow Preki sure has his options, hes got potential jobs at dc, chicago and ny. wonder if any of the teams is a favorite at this point.

jus pointing out the obvious that me and my fellow fire fans note day in day out

however, you have to take into factor DH's record.... in his 2 yrs he's managed to get to two playoffs, 1 confrence final, and a superliga final...

though most expect we should be top of the league with hardware already in hand with the roster we have... our defensive woes have been an undoing... if we lost a solid defender, midfield and forward (say Segares, Rolfe and BMB) we wouldnt be as badly hurt as losing Baky, Conde, Segares and Ward.... we have lost our entire backline for a big part of the season... it hurts, but we also have depth... DH needed to figure something out and stop dropping all those points at home

November 5, 2009  11:22 AM ET

I have questioned DH's tactics since the middle of last year when we had McBride join the club. Here we have one of the most prolific strikers in American history and the team did very little to utilize him. The offensive play has been way too compact in the center of the pitch and even the wingers (Pappa and Mapp) constantly dribble the ball into the middle of the pitch instead of sending in crosses for McBride to handle and either feed to other players or try to score. Widening the field would also CREATE better opportunities for a dynamic player like Blanco who within about 30 yards is deadly if given just a 1/2 second to do something.

But no- just a lot of short touch passes back and forth in the middle of the field. It is as if you can see the opposing defense ask themselves "OK- WTF is going on? Are they going to even try to do anything?"

This team really should have consistently won and should be the Supporters Shield holders for this year.

Wanna check out something funny? Become a fan of the Chicago Fire on Facebook and you will see that anything they post- charity events, ticket sales, appearances, whatever- will have a lot of postings to fire Hamlett.

As for Blanco- I love the guy's game and all that he is still being able to do despite being slow as molasses, but the team needs to consider a younger option with that DP. Is F Adu worth a DP slot? I would consider it, and he might be given the chance to play CAM with the Fire. Would the Fire try to convince another Mexican "legend" like Marquez to come and fill the void? I would hope not considering I HATE Rafa Marquez and don't see the intrinsic long-term value of bringing in another soon to retire Mexican star just for short-term ticket boosts. This is not to say that it was the only good reason to bring in Blanco, or to bring in a guy like Marquez, because they are both solid players- but I think the development of the team being winners is more important than short term ticket sales and the organic growth of the organization should be done regardless of who the players are that they bring in.

I still have my hopes up for Henry- but I know that is a hyperbolic case of "wishful thinking."

I say if Blanco really wants to piss of Club America- he should go play for Chivas USA and don those colors for a season!

Maybe that is the key- a straight up sign and trade deal with Blanco for Preki? No... Doesn't work that way...

Which is a big part of the reason why I have only gone to a couple of matches this year- they SUCK at home.

I am getting called every day by the Fire to buy tickets for Saturday's match, and I still haven't made up my mind. I think the Fire can and should win by at least a goal (setting up extra time), but I just don't know if I can stand to go see another home loss.

No worries about Marquez, he doesn't even play midfield unless its defensive mid--so he wouldn't be much help in my opinion at CAM.

His favorite has to be Chicago, that's the side that has the most potential to be champs and Preki would surely put them over the top... I love his Balkans-football mentality.

Yeah, I meant more about the "void" in having a Mexican player attract Mexican American fans to Toyota Park. Clearly, I would not want Marquez with the Fire to begin with, but ESPECIALLY not at CAM... What a nightmare!
