Hill advised Nelson not to play

Magic fans probably don't want to hear about Phoenix Suns SF Grant Hill advising any Magic player about playing with injuries. But Hill said before facing his old club on Wednesday night that he did speak with point guard Jameer Nelson last season and encouraged his former teammate not to come back to play in the playoffs. "Put that on the record. You can ask him. I told him not to play, just from my own experience," Hill said.

Well, Grant Hill *DID* attend Duke University, which has one of the best medical centers and medical schools in the world. Therefore, by "The Law of Proximity", he's somewhat qualified to give medical advice, right ?

Paging Dr.Grant Hill...

Kidding. In seriousness, I guess his own experience counts for something.

Put that on record?

I am so sick of soundbites from athletes.

I'd rather listen to the people that discovered green fluorescent protein or read Faulkner or something.

The folks on T & R are more interesting than sportsplayers.

Sigh but I can't help it - I love the NBA so much!

How many times was he hurt while in Orlando? Maybe he knows something about Orlando's medical staff? Perhaps they were trained in the same back alley as the Clippers' medical staff.

Yeah he shouldnt have came back!! He cost the Magic the championship!

You're kidding I hope. Because the Magic didn't have a chance of beating the Lakers.

I didn't know the Clippers had a medical staff...I just thought they had a bunch of root-workers, faith-healers, and voo-doo docs who were constantly trying to undo the Clippers organizational curse...

Hill advising any Magic player about playing with injuries.

F- U grant....who in the world do you think you are ?
just cause you were more brittle & injur-riddled than Greg oden-
doesn't make you anyone that can give opinions as to injuries
that you didn't even have....

Some players have something called HEART that makes them
WANT to play regardles if they'r banged-up or not.

November 5, 2009  09:38 AM ET

He's been there before so he does not know what he's talking about. Sad to note that Hill spent the better part of his career on the injured list.

November 5, 2009  09:40 AM ET

Sounds like sour grapes to me - How many years did Orlando put up with his injuries - was it three or four years?

To be fair to him, I didn't think he was able to play at all with the type of recurring injury he had. I believe that during his time with DET and ORL, the medical stuff were either ill equipped to deal with the injury or they just rushed him back too soon, resulting in further injury.

Hill was a class act on and off the court and I can only hope for more players like him.

This should be "he DOES know what he's talking about"

Sorry Grant your old people bones heal slower than younger people bones, na just playing he is right Nelson is lucky he didnt get hurt again and plus not like he made a difference they still lost I think he messed up the flow of the team cause Skip "Alston" was doing him out there then he got lost on the bench during the finals. NO RESPECT he helped them get there then they sit his A**

I totally agree...Kinda player that people like to root for...

Once again, you guys want to kill the messenger. {b]Common sense[/b] should have told the Magic that 100% of Rafer Alston would be better than 50% of Nelson; then again, common sense isn't common.

And then he just leaves, doesn't take a one year minimum deal or even consider going back to the Magic. For such a classy guy that was pretty cold.

November 5, 2009  10:43 AM ET

All the man is saying is don't rush back from a serious injury! We are talking about a player's career.

I couldnt disagree more

Yeah and some times that heart will make their injuries worse and have to sit out longer because their organization wants them to return early then expected and play through the injuries. He has the rest of his career to play healthy basketball, majority of the players especially franchise players dont fully recover and re-injury themselves and make it worse and have to sit out longer, Hill is speaking from experience.

Didn't he only have 1 injury shortened season in DET? Then the next season played 74 games.
