Lance Stephenson is finally eligible to play college basketball. The all-time leading scorer in New York City history committed to Cincinnati over the summer, but the NCAA had to investigate his amateur status because of a documentary done on Stephenson during his playing days at Lincoln High -- where he lead the Railsplitters to four straight PSAL titles. Yesterday, it was announced that he was able to play immediately.

I hate a slow news day when all there is to talk about is basketball.

Ah yes another academic marvel admitted to the great University of Cincinnati. The same school where Huggings didn't graduate a player in a decade straight. An institution of higher learning dedicated to getting the Max out of their athelete students. Coach by the little red haired midget who is getting outclassed in the big east.

cincy...never thought he would end up there, one and done. whatever.

You go to college for academics first doesn't everyone agree with that? This kid might surprise all of us and become an engineer or a chemist in 4 years.

Railsplitters??? Nice.

I think he's going to take those hard ball room dancing and bowling classes. Maybe some of those drama classes, and an art class or two

Now that you mention it, it does.

So who gets the Cincy BB job when it opens up in April 2010?? Steve Alford is working behind the scenes as we speak. But so is Bob Knight.

November 6, 2009  04:47 PM ET

Not surprised that he got cleared. Good luck to the kid on his one and done with the Bearcats.

I was thinking of something else...

"Dude, I took that chick home last night and gave her a railsplitter."
"Nice."
"Yeah, she was still walking funny when she left my place."
*high fives abound*

It was written about in SI years back. But there are alot of schools that do not graduate their atheletes Cincy just happens to one of them.

have to say that oft thrown out comment of cinn not graduating bb players is incorrect and has been discredited time after time... the facts are this... first if a player transfers or is a juco player or goes into the nba prior to grad... the ncaa does not recognize a player graduating unless they began and ended at that school.... and if you want to do a little research you will find that over the recent years cinn graduation rate of players is as good or better than most schools...

Then it's funny how there is never a posting anywhere what current and past grads are doing in the business world what their jobs are and the time they graduated and in what major. Cincinnati with the University college schoolinside with the 2 year program is basically a junior college where they can hide players for four years. Never once have I seen in a BB or FB program a currunt update list on graduation dates and current jobs of past players. Like what is Melvin Leggett doing or Steve Logan or the guy who punched the horse, or Bobby Brannon or Donnie Long the guy who kidnapped and tortured his roommate. or Wingfield the kid who beat up his mother and they got him out of jail and brought him to school. What's Lamar Johnson doing? Your comment is Bull Sh it. Own up to the facts you are running a rogue institution making a mockery of higher education and you brought in this last kid to save Mick the midgets job!!!!!! Funny how coaches try and cover up for their programs. Nice try.

scrubber... sorry to hear of your obsession towards cinn... interesting that you have all the 'dirt' so close at hand... but for a second ... slick... if you are so obsessed... then maybe go to the ncaa site and check out the facts... because honestly I feel secure enough to not have to or have the urge to sling the proverbial sh#t in a large arc... because your bitter thoughts don't make you bigger... just smaller

try thinking of u of cinn as a urban school, enrollment of about 36k .... like a small city or large town that every year has a substantial change of residents... your bringing up several negative situations over a period of what twenty years... give us all a break... am so tired of people like you that feel that they need to take the 'moral highroad' and play the character assassination game...

not excusing some of the examples you brought up... but at least bring a little objectivity to your rants... the use of several examples over a period of time to define the school and their athletic programs is both wrong and irresponsible... but hey ... maybe you should get a job with one of the entertainment rags or even better .. si ..... the leader in doing a 72 hr interview and then condensing it down to 2,000 words .... including all the 'juicy dirt' that is typically used out of context...

November 7, 2009  12:25 PM ET

on a roll... this is a fact... the uc program was put under a microscope when they were invited to join the BE several years ago... also cannot remember cinn being investigated by the ncaa while unlv and indiana, etc were being 'ticketed' .... and they have a tendency to be fairly thorough .... enough said

Cincy might be cleaner academically since Hugs left but look at the terrible state of the BB program. Since the Prez basically took over institutional control of the BB program you have not been able to bring in as many, hoods, felons and below marginal students but that equals losses. The next new coach according to my inside roundball booster contact will have it easier.

Cincy is an urban campus surrounded by ghetto homes, Vine Street winos and drug dealers. it is not safe to venture 20 feet off campus ever but especially at night. It's not that safe to walk the campus at night that's why there are emergency buttons every 100 feet. A very unsafe campus, good school for a guy but a terrible situation for a young girl to attend. Huggins had the school rolling but it has been joke basketball since.
