Royals, White Sox deny trade rumors

Merely hours after the New York Yankees secured their 27th World Series title, a report claimed the Royals had agreed to send outfielder Mark Teahen to the Chicago White Sox for second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman/outfielder Josh Fields. The report first appeared Thursday in the New York Daily News and gained steam when the Chicago Sun-Times cited confirmation from the White Sox. It now appears those reports, at best, are premature.

A lot of that these days. Everyone wants to be the first to report something, so they jump the gun.

This WOULD be a nice trade for the White Sox.

Yet again ... the Royals will jettison a good young player for spare parts and other trash so they don't have to pay this guy.

November 6, 2009  08:50 AM ET

That's great they picked up on this article out of KC but the Trib and ESPN report it's a done deal. Teahen is a great pickup.

November 6, 2009  08:50 AM ET

And they wonder why they will never win.

Sorry to see Chris Getz leave, he is going to be a good player eventually and i would bet on him stealing 30 next season. He didn't have the best season this year but showed flashes of being a very good player. Reports are out today that this is a done deal that is just being held up on negations on another minor leaguer the Royals are going to send to the Sox.

Apparently the Royals don't care about quality. They care about players that are cheap and young. I like the fact that Getz can steal bases, but he only hit .260 last season. Fields hit 27 dingers as a rookie in 2007, but only 7 homers and a pathetic average in 2009. The Royals have several players that we need to get rid of (Jose Guillen, Coco Crisp, John Buck, Miguel Olivo, David Dejesus, Mike Aviles, Yunieski Betencourt, Mike Jacobs, Doug Waechter, Jamey Wright, Yosuhiko Yabuta, Kyle Farnsworth, Lenny DiNardo, Juan Cruz, John Bale, Bruce Chen, and Luke Hochevar). Why start by moving someone that could actually have a role with this team? I just don't get it. Billy Butler and Zac Grienke are nice players, but we have nothing to build around them with. Get with the program David and Dan. Spend some money and get quality players in here!!!

Why would the Royals trade one of their best players to a division rival? I'm going to hate watching this guy play for the pale hose.

November 6, 2009  01:06 PM ET

Getz ain't as bad as you think if he stayed healthy he would have had better numbers he will be asolid 2nd baseman with about a 270-300 avg and steal 30 bases, plus he does all the little things good, I am hoping this will open door for Sox to put Beckham at ss and send Alexi back to 2nd, and then sign Figgins

November 6, 2009  01:11 PM ET

Wow my Sox got killed on this one. Getz had real good numbers for a rookie. He has speed and a very good glove. The Royals are going to love that guy. I will miss him. He also had half as many strike outs as Tehan with around the same plate appearances. I don't know what Kenny was thinking here. And Fields could still develop into a good power hitter if he actually gets playing time. We got robbed.

MUCH TO DO ABOUT NOTHING GETZ A NICE PLAYER FIELDS LOOKED REAL GOOD A FEW YEARS AGO NOW HIS CONFIDENCE IS SHOT THE KC PLAYER IS AT BEST A BENCH GUY

I dont understand that one, why wouldn't the Royals keep Teahen, hes a very versatile player and can hit. do they really need to shed his contract? I cant imasgine its that big, but anyway on the surface it doesn't look like they got any great deal in return.

Getz is going to be a solid second baseman and fields can play first for the royals. this trade makes almost perfect sense for the sox. They loose base stealing in Getz which will hurt but now you can put teahen at third. Shift beckham to short and ramirez back to second. Have nix as your utility if. If that doesn't work put Trajan in right rios in cf and platoon lf with Carlos and pods(if resigned). I like it. Way to go Williams.

I think the ultimate goal of any deal involving the White Sox is getting Beckham back to SS. He played an unfamiliar position last year and still had a very good year with the bat. I'm sure they figure he'll have an unbelievable year if he's playing his normal position. Alexei was a mess there last year, he just can't seem to judge the throws from SS to 1st base. But he was solid at 2nd. Teahen may be the Sox starting 3rd baseman next year, but don't put it past Kenny to acquire him this quickly to use as a pawn. He may know of another team out there that wants him and might use him as a bargaining chip to get who he really wants at 3rd.

Why is it news when two stinky teams from the always inferior Central division talk trade ???

November 7, 2009  12:57 AM ET

@Bronson1: well, they have to have SOMETHING to talk about and keep 'em occupy 'til spring ball and the inevitable losing season.....
