Lewis sticking to retirement plans

After the game in Chicago, Jamal Lewis was so upset with yet another pathetic team performance that he declared this would be his last NFL season. Wednesday, he said he had planning to retire, anyway. "The decision I made had nothing to do with this season, how it's going or whatever. It really didn't," Lewis said. "My whole decision was based on my [trucking] business and what I have going on outside of football and things that I want to be able to give 100 percent to. I can't do that right now because I'm here. I've got to give 100 percent to this."

Say it ain't so.

It sounds like the man has outside interests and wants to make the move before he takes one hit too many and gets his brains scrambled. Good thinking, Lewis. Walk away with your head high and your health intact.

Jamal, you won't be missed.

November 6, 2009  07:45 AM ET

Good for him. A football player that has a plan after football. I wish him well.

November 6, 2009  07:49 AM ET

Completely respect Jamal - one tough hombre that leaves it out there every Sunday. Best of luck to him.

Mangina is the one who should be making retirement plans.

It's been my lifelong dream to go into the trucking business too.

November 6, 2009  08:11 AM ET

Hey Jamal, as long as you're focussing on your outside businesses, do you know where a guy can score a couple of keys?

meh. one of the few things brownie fans get enjoyment from during the season. 2010 looks bleaker than 2009, if that is even possible..

November 6, 2009  09:03 AM ET

It's been that same song and dance for a long, long time. That is one sorry group led by a bunch of incompetent leaders. Sell the team and get some people into leadership positions who want to play football. Hire Gruden, Cowher or someone along those lines cause there are some really good players in Cleveland stuck in a messed up organization.

Truck your behind out of here.

November 6, 2009  10:07 AM ET

If he's already concentrating on his next job or career, he's by default not giving 100% to his current job or career -- namely the Cleveland Browns. So he should retire right now and never play another game. And if the trucking gig doesn't need him until January, that's fine, he can spend the rest of his unemployed year being a ****** and a thug.

November 6, 2009  11:20 AM ET

Playing for the Browns means you've already retired.

November 6, 2009  11:22 AM ET

Good luck Jamal! Don't be puttin' any drugs in those trucks now and please don't pull a Favre on us.
