The unsigned Wally Szczerbiak told The Post yesterday he underwent knee surgery three weeks ago at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan and is seriously considering retiring in the coming weeks. The surgeons have told Szczerbiak another knee injury could affect his ability to lead a normal life because he lacks enough cartilage in the knee after three surgeries.

Time to hang 'em up Wally. You had a good enough run.

I think it doesn't really count as retirement if no one wants to sign you...

See ya, Wally!!!

I kept this guy's rookie card- thought it might have value someday.

I was right - compost is valuable.

I know the Nuggets had some interest in the former All-Star. He's obviously not going to hurt his "legacy" like Favre by signing a short contract contract, but it's his decision so good luck buddy. Just don't spend all your money in one place like Antoine Walker.

Take your millions, retire and thank God you didn't have to brown-bag it like the rest of us schleps.....

Go. You're done.

Too much to risk by playing. He can always become a coach at the College level if he can't step away from the game.

exactly....i guess marbury and antoine walker should go ahead and make the decision on whether "they" think its time to hang em up or not.....

November 6, 2009  10:07 AM ET

Fair enough...! he's had a life that most of us posters deam about...Nothing to be ashamed about, just fade off into obscurity gracefully...

Szczerbiak's is a pretty good name for a sports bar, don't you think...?

Marbury's already said he's "taking this season off" and playing next year. At least he got it half-right.

anybody who criticizes Wally doesn't know a dang thing about the NBA. look at the guy's numbers and his percentages. match those up against your favorite gunner who takes 45 shots a game and doesn't come close to his numbers. Wally is one of the most efficicient players in NBA history. He never got the ball, but somehow managed to put up career numbers that many guys would dream of.
