Can Miller play with Roy in Portland?

We can't blame Andre Miller for being the new guy. We can't blame Brandon Roy for wanting to pick up where things finished a year ago. We can't even blame Blazers coach Nate McMillan for dabbling with so many combinations that the players look confused, especially after he lost his starting small forward late in the preseason. If Miller and Roy are still struggling to play together in December, you can start talking trade of the new guy. And if McMillan continues to dabble in a way that prevents the Blazers from finding comfort, we can begin the dialogue about whether he's the right coach to lead the team into the future.

They'll find a way to gel together, I know it.

November 6, 2009  08:01 AM ET

They'll figure it out hopefully . Anyway at this stage , it's too early to tell.

lol.....here's a brilliant thought.....
PLAY MILLER MORE

Blake as a starter is averaging 6 & 3.......

A little late to be asking this, maybe figure this out BEFORE you sign the guy.

Just 5 games into the season.

yea, but blake doesnt dominate the ball the way miller does. would you rather have Broy with the ball and blake spotting up for the jumper or miller dominating the ball and making Broy a spot up shooter, which limits his offensive creativity?

jgb, you gotta admit playing behind Steve Blake has got to take a toll on your psyche....Would be kinda like D'Antoni announcing he is bringing callimari off the bench behind an inert and cafeteria bound Eddy Curry...Suprised ol' Andre hasn't sought some psycho theraphy by now....

Andre Miller has a lot of of PG skills...He has shown this previously both in College and in Denver....Playiingwith this kind of talent level would bring that out again...

im not doubting andre's skill set. i know he can play, but the thing that makes broy so good is that he handles the ball and creates for others as well as himself. but if andre has the ball for the majority of the time(as a pg usually does), it kinda hurts roys game. but they should be able to get it together.....after all isnt that Mcmillans JOB?

Maybe they've gone as far as they can with Nate.

November 6, 2009  10:51 AM ET

He better since now that they've signed Aldridge and Roy long term this team has very little flexibility.

Stupid!

Get used to mediocrity Portland you ain't winning it all for a while.

No, they overvalued their talent and have made their bed, and are now stuck with it.

November 6, 2009  10:51 AM ET

Just like I warned all along.

November 6, 2009  11:00 AM ET

Portland's only hope now is to jettison some of that young talent for another established up-and-comer, but I'm afraid not many teams will bite.

It is easy enough to build a playoff team when more than half the teams get to dance but getting over the mountain requires that je ne sais quoi.

Brilliant. Because it's so very easy to tell if something like that is going to work out beforehand.

How do you know Miller will do that?
He's been a starting guard the last 5 years and has
taken his teams to the playoffs in every year
The guy understands his job and how to win
- give him the starting line-up and hell adapt his game

Blake is useless....
he's a facilitator that is averaging 3 assists a game
he had a nice year last year.....but still only averaged 5 assists

Roy will ALWAYS touch the ball-
having miller out there means less double teams on Roy
having blake out there does none of that

I know because I watch, play, and have coached basketball....I know that andre miller isnt a great perimeter shooter....i know he likes to drive to the basket and post up, which means he is going to usually be passing to spot up shooters, which you do not want your BEST player doing all of the time.

I know blake isnt great, but he plays tough defense, runs the team with minimal turn overs and spots up while Roy creates....and blake is a better shooter than andre....not a better player....

what do you think the article is saying? I took it as Roy, and Miller are having trouble playing well together for the exact reasons I pointed out.

BTW...you seem really angry today.....hug? u basically said some of the same things i said....Nate should fix the problem, by having andre adjust his game, because its his job.

I'm beginning to think McMillan is an idiot...Why in the world do you get a PG like Miller and have him play behind Steve Blake???? Thats a Clippers kinda move there...And its not like Steve blake gets Nash type of assists either...He really can't shoot straight as well..

Bottom line, is that Brandon Roy needs someone that can complement him in the backcourt...Steve Blake doesn't complement anything well except may a scrub quota system.

You went out and got him...Play the man!
