According to Rome-based paper Il Tempo, Roma captain Francesco Totti has finally put pen to paper on a new five-year deal to stay at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2014. It is suggested the long-awaited signature arrived last Wednesday at Villa Pacelli, the club's headquarters.

Like Totti would ever suit up for another club. Totti is to Roma as del Piero is to Juve.

Or Gerard is to Liverpool. It's really hurt his reputation internationally staying with Roma, who are really a second tier club in Italy with the financial problems they've had for the past twenty five years. But he'll never leave.

WAY OFF TOPIC: over the last few weeks I've been pimping a brand new website dedicated solely to football and social gaming with a bunch of betting tools. If some of you would be so kind, I need some folks who want to do some beta testing. Message me if you're interested or go directly to the new site worldfootballbook dot com. Right now we're doing regression testing for IE 7 on one part of the application, so make sure you at least use the latest browser until we get things sorted out.

I still can't figure out why this made T&R ... you can probably add De Rossi to this list as well. Roma is one of those soap operas that the Italian media loves to no end - sure their financials are open to debate and the Sensi family are a trainwreck, but I don't think Rossi's international reputation has suffered. When you've got the World Cup in your trophy bag, almost every thing else is forgiven. Just ask Romario.

I don't know. I get the feeling that most people outside of devoted Serie A watchers don't appreciate how great a player Totti is. I wonder how much of that is because he has not appeared regularly in the Champions League in his career. Let's face it, most Anglophiles know Totti primarily for spitting on Christen Poulsen, rather than, say, his performance against France in the Euro 2000 final or something similar.

This line caught my interest; i thought maybe this was a new vocation for you. You had me glued to your every word being that I am a reformed pimp myself and I might have some advice, like making sure you always carry some tic tacs.

But seriously, I'm not much of a betting man. But if I were, I would not bet on Getty Images....

It's bigger than just betting ... we'll be linking into facebook in about two weeks and then the advertising blitz happens. Just looking for beta testers.

Podcasts, HD Videocasts (none of those youtubish things), prediction leagues and what has been called the best fantasy product on the internet with close to 5000 actual players and managers right down to their weekly stats. I know some of you guys have your own thing going on, but this toy is going to be a monster.

1200 new accounts in two days is pretty cool.

Yup. The 1994 Selecao is not remembered as well as the 2002 vintage. I think the '82 and '86 vintages are held in higher regard and they didn't even win. But that tournament pretty much allowed Romario to be, well, Romario for his career. Had Italy pulled out the ugliest final ever, Romario's legacy in Brasil would be looked at very differently. I doubt he would have gotten a pass on being such a pr-ck during his later playing days.

Nope. I have been carrying tic tacs since 1987. It just works. I haven't seen Juno yet.

Just in time for my new sig. Had no clue that he was extending. Great for him.

November 6, 2009  07:22 PM ET

isn't he already in his mid 30s? will he realistically paly out those five seasons or is this just a way to wrap him up for the organization and ensure he's eventually a trainer/manager there?

He's 33, with a birthday in Sept., so realistically he could play 5 more seasons. However, how effective will he be? IMO, this is a move to ensure that Totti finishes his career at Roma. He will get a backroom position after retiring.

The 33-year-old will earn ???5 million per season and has been guaranteed a position in the Lupi backroom staff once he retires.

i understand the money and why AS will hold onto him but think the longer term goal is to keep him training/coaching/scouting in the organization. don't you agree?
