Lombardi coming to Broadway?
The life of Vince Lombardi - one of the Seven Blocks of Granite at Fordham, the coaching saint, the mahatma of Green Bay - is the subject of a new play, and its producers plan to bring it to Broadway late next year. There will be no singing or dancing, no crooning Lombardi, no "Damn Packers." "It's 40 years since he last coached and that's part of the reason we're doing this," said Eric Simonson, who is adapting the play from "When Pride Still Mattered," David Maraniss's 1999 biography of Lombardi. "His name is on the Super Bowl trophy. But who is the guy? There's something about his character that reflects America."

I would love for these pampered babies to play,(or try) for Lombardi now.

There will be no singing or dancing... Thank God
But this still sounds like one fat unintentional mockery of a legend.

Agreed. They couldn't do it with him alive. He'd tell 'em to go **** themselves.

I tend to agree Sir that it'll be unintenional. I believe they will make him out to be a dictator.

As we have observed over the past few years, pride doesn't matter anymore. It's all about the paycheck. The leagues has expanded too far, half of the players don't deserve to be there, and the quality of play is way down. How many teams really have a shot at the SB every year 6? -8? This is just one reason that I'll never go to a pro game again. Not that it matters to them.

Is there a part for Broadway Joe? Perhaps some other big Starr we could think of?

YGTBSM..."There's something about his character that reflects America." Really? What part? Not in this era. If Lombardi dropped hot coffee in his lap would he sue someone? Would Lombardi go to the airport wearing his "pajamas" dragging a bag behind him like some just awoken sloth? Would Lombardi stand idly by while some young girl was raped and take snaps with his phone? Would Lombardi look to some third world country to help him with the care fo the locker room (think Indian Call Centre...)? NO; Lombardi would kick some ash and then send Chuck Norris in to clean up the mess. There is very little in America today that reflects Lombardi's toughness, tenacity, and moral fiber.

You are right, my friend. 100%. The character of Vince Lombardi gives us a look back into the past, not into the present.

Present day generations feats -
Baby Boomers took us to the Moon, Mars, Jupiter - designed the Corvette & Harley Davidson Motorcycles - developed the Jet Aircraft - Television - Digital Watches -Telephones - Microwave Ovens.
Generation X has brought the entire world closer with the Internet - Portable telephones with cameras.
Generation Y (or slacker generation) brought us Snow Boards and just want to USE what the generations before them created. Along with cheap costs, good quality, fast service and an "experience" every time they leave the house.

Lombardi on Broadway? What's next? Lombardi lingerie? Lombardi Wellness Centers? Maybe they'll put his name on the other trophy - the Tony. Give us all a break you lame-asses.
Canuck eh?

Seems the consensus here is the concept of Lombardi on Broadway makes all of us have that "threw up in my mouth" feeling and expression.......
Well done TNR finding the good stories on a weekend. LOL

Ernest Borgnine would have been perfect for the role, though. Too bad he's gone as well.
