Newman: NASCAR needs to keep cars on ground

Nearly a week removed from his harrowing wreck at Talladega, Ryan Newman insists he wants to be part of the solution to preventing cars from getting airborne in NASCAR races. Newman's car flipped in a wreck late in last Sunday's race at Alabama's Talladega Superspeedway and he spent 12 minutes upside down before he was extricated from the car. "From an aerodynamic standpoint, ultimately our biggest thing is to keep the race cars on the ground," Newman said.

To me the roof flaps did more harm than good in this situation.. it appeared as soon as they went up.. the car got airborne

I would have to say that all drivers would want to be part of the solution to prevent cars from getting airborne. The only one I can see opposed to that would be Mayfield.

i have stated before, many times, that they(NASCAR) need to look into a different setup with the flaps.... i have my own theory, just not the resources to test it.... send me money for testing, please!!!!

Funny JK. I agree with Ryan but thought his rant calling out NASCAR after his wreck was a little too much. Its hard for me to sympathize with millionaires.

Cletusz, If Jr. can't win with what tools and equipment you have been offered, something is definitely wrong with his driving skills. LOL

We were talking about JR., right?

JK, Have some coffee.
Your comment should have said,
"I have the crumpled fender from Jr's car from the last time he offered up a meeting with Jesus at the wall for Kyle in the #18"

That sounds much better, and makes more cents! LOL

So, because Ryan is a millionaire, you don't think he had the right to be upset and say what he said after being in that wreck? Ooooooooookay.

I was glad that Newman was honest and spoke his mind, instead of tap dancing around and giving the same canned response as everyone else: "It's a shame because the US Army/Gillette/Old Spice/Office Depot/Jasper Chevy was in it to win today..."

He didn't kiss a.ss and didn't back down. I respect him for that.

Depends, where have your hands been lately.
Oh, I made a funny. Old Man + Depends! LOL
Just pulling you chain a bit.

November 7, 2009  05:52 PM ET

I still say to get that piece of crap off the deck lid -- when the car is moving forward it is suppose to provide downforce ... when the car gets turned around and is going backward it will lift!! The "pie rack" has to go!!!

As for Newmen - a month or so ago I said that the undercarriage of the COT car is so air tight, that if a breeze came you could use these cars for kites

lol!!!! never said i was friggin MacGyver now... drop nails out the back of his car, and wait for everyone to come back around to it???? strap his car to JJ's for the rest of the year... it'd be the 48-88... he'd still probably end up with best finish of his season!!!!

You need to take a step back, and drop into the poop.
You stated you had a solution, now bring it! LOL
Nothing else is acceptable.
