Bryant suspended for more than lies

There was more to the NCAA's issues with Dez Bryant than the Oklahoma State receiver's lies about meeting with Deion Sanders. In a rules "interpretation request" sent by OSU to the NCAA, the school said use of the indoor turf by any member of the public would cost $140 per hour. The school also said Sanders and Bryant said they "jogged around" on the turf during their one-hour visit to the facility, that there was no football equipment used and that they were the only ones on the turf during that time. Because of Sanders' relationship with the facility, he and Bryant were allowed to visit the facility without going through any check-in process where they would have been asked to pay.

More information and its still stupid.

It is actually criminal what the NCAA is allowed to do to kids and coaches. Neuheisel got the NCAA back big time. Bryant ought to sue also. Funny how no one stands up or challenges them. Some one needs to got off on the NCAA.

dumb.

November 7, 2009  10:58 AM ET

$140 per an hour on synth-grass... sumthin' wrong here...

The NCAA knows it screwed up on this one and is just trying to cover their ****. A guy lies cause hes scared gets a whole year, another player trys to rip another players eyes out and he gets half a game. How does that figure?? Huge double standard by the NCAA and no im not a SEC hater either. Just saying this is plain wrong whats happened to Bryant.

So how old is the rulebook the ncaa uses??? Anyone else think a revision is in order???

1) Exaggerate much? Spikes didn't intend to"rip Ealey's eyes out", nor did he intend to blind Ealey. His intent was to poke Ealey in the eyes to inflict a little pain. Even Spikes isn't stupid enough to try to injure someone permanently. By your exaggerated logic, Blount didn't just punch a guy, he was trying to decapitate him.

2) In the end, Spikes got a whole game, not half a game.

3) The NCAA was not responsible for assigning punishment to Spikes, nor did they have the authority to. If it was up to them, they likely would have suspended Spikes for the rest of the year, so there is no double standard.

Probably a good idea. There would be much less whining about unfair punishments.

yeah and clinton did not have sex with that woman ms. lewinsky.

that's the lamest excuse for his actions i have heard yet and probably the most moronic explanation of why it happened and what he did.

Agreed. A shot in the ribs, an elbow??? That's to inflict a little pain. Going after someones eyes is completely out of line. Spikes had one intention, and one intention only, serious damage.

November 7, 2009  03:48 PM ET

I'm not an Okie State fan, but this is too ridiculous to believe. Jogging on a field with Deon Sanders merits losing a year of playing???

The more of this that comes out, the more ridiculous the NCAA comes off.

Got some bad dope today SSI?, BS story.

Hum, gouge someone's eyes out and you miss 2 quarters... yay for hypocritical money grunning "educators." College football is rotten from top to bottom, what a disgusting cesspool.

They make TV preachers look honest. They should at least have the decency to stop pretending they have anything to do with actual education.

You're an idiot. Since the beginning of sport, there's basically two things you just DON'T do. You don't hit a dude in the nuts, and you don't eye gouge. Those are the lowest things you can do in sports--not just football, any sport.

No **** they're the lowest things you can do genius. When did I say it wasn't low? Pretty sure you're the idiot.

And that's the lamest analogy I've ever seen. I wasn't debating whether or not Spikes did what he did. We all know he did it. But as dumb as Spikes me be, he damn wells knows that if he blinds someone he'll face criminal charges. He was trying to hurt Ealey, not blind him or rip and eyeball out. My brother and I used to fight when we were little. I've poked him in the eyes before, but I sure as hell wasn't trying to make him go blind.

anybody got a comment about that dumbfu(k Deion .Bets are Eugene won't be representing Dez

still a dummazz statement second time around.

1) How do you know what Spikes' intentions were? You don't, yet you speak it like gospel. 2) You have no clue what the NCAA would have done as that too is speculation. If there was that much of a disparity between what Florida deemed appropriate (half game, later becoming a full game) and the NCAA (a full season), the NCAA would have stepped in.

You're wasting your time by trying to decipher "intent". It doesn't matter what the "intention" of poking someone's eyes out, punching them after the game, or lying to the NCAA. The point is, the NCAA has said that illegaly attempting to cause someone undue physical damage (however "permanent" is not the point) is less severe than using your status to run around a track that costs money and not paying. And that is wrong in every sense of the word.

I've got sympathy for Bryant, but I don't think I'll be able to say that if I hear of another player making mistakes that have any involvement from Deion Sanders. At this point, any college player with a hope of making it big should probably just treat him like cancer.
