Grizzlies: Iverson hasn't asked for trade

When Allen Iverson actually plays a game in FedExForum is anyone's guess. Griz owner Michael Heisley vehemently insisted that Iverson needed time off to handle an important family issue. A timetable for Iverson's return is unknown. The veteran guard did not ask for a trade or request to be waived. Heisley said the team knew about Iverson's issue before signing him to a one-year, $3.1 million contract in September.

I mean- just cut the dude.
there is ZERO reasons to keep this guy around-
you're still going to be a lottery team with him &
you're going to re- tard the development of all your young guys

You're only on the hook for 3+mil
show your fans and your TEAM that you have a backbone
and that you don't want to be LOSERS anymore

Won't work, jgb. Memphis needs AI's "star power" to draw crowds to the arena.

They are trying to walk a fine line by keeping him on one hand, and moving him to the second-string - so he's not a starter - on the other hand.

They have to do that, because the game is a business, and they want the money that AI brings from selling tickets, and also because they are trying to develop the young guys as you mention.

In a previous post from a previous article about AI, I depicted a scenario involving AI's many steps into obscurity. It started with AI going to Denver and Detroit, his complaining about not starting, and gradually being moved around until he finally ends up in Europe or the NBDL, where he finally gets to play out his remaining days as a starter.

Seriously Jay- this is not 2002.....AI has NO 'star power'
if they continue to LOSE no one's coming- the economy sucks
and people aren't going to spend their hard-earned $$
to watch him at this stage in his career....

He's also not going to Europe-
the guys make 100 mil+ and from what I understand is not
going bankrupt....there is NO WAY IN HELL he'd go-
it's not worth it

He is such a bonehead, his situation is going be a repeat of marbury, was he hiding in a closet somewhere when marbury went thru this same thing, has any team signed marbury NO. Why in the world would he put him and the team he signed with to all of this, after all it was the only team in the NBA to even give him another shot at playing at all. If he put in an effort to try and be a team player he might even had a shot to proof he deserves a starting spot, but he did not even give it chance, now look what it has become. Does he not follow players from the past to realize that all players end thier playing days coming off the bench. I dont think he will ever get any kind of job in the NBA after his playing days because of his selfish attitude. like a coaching job, tv analyst, GM, nothing who would give him any respect to want to even work with him. What a bozo

November 8, 2009  09:57 AM ET

Wow... that took all of one game...

November 8, 2009  10:01 AM ET

Iverson sure has every other NBA team killing themselves over not siging him.

Uuh excuse me; Iverson has no 'star power' anymore. There's a reason why 30 teams passed on the guy. There may be a few fans that will show up for a short time--just to say they saw him, but at the end of the day, the fans aren't going to show up to watch another 20 win season.

Your talking about a team that traded FOR Zach Randolph's remaining two year contract.

...and he won't go to Europe because there aren't enough Europeans to support his over-inflated ego. Check his temperature; he's done.

Not enough production for a player who's being paid paid over 33 million for 2 more years.

Goodbye Allen, and you can take your overrated CAREER with you. Where are the ALLEN IVERSON GROUPIES today???? He is a chemistry-killer, a coach-killer and a player not the least bit interested in playing winning basketball. He only wants to play HIS WAY, the hell with everyone else. Now he can't even stick on MEMPHIS??? Like I've repeatedly said, if he's so great, so important and so skilled, why wouldn't an UPPER ECHELON team want his services? Wouldn't a talent like AI put a team over the top? Short answer..NO!! I've NEVER like his game, but I will tell you this much: you put him on Cleveland as the scoring punch off the bench, where he comes in with the second unit and just hoists shots, he could could score 15-20 a night and help Cleveland win a championship, too bad HE'S TOO FUGGIN CLUELESS AND STUPID to understand that he's not a starter anymore and that the sacrifice would win him a title.

Allen Iverson fans, go crawl back into obscurity, much like your overrated God.

Ratchet, 15-20 points a game along with 10 rebounds is about what you get for 16 million a year, he's right, Randolph is a moron, but he does produce.

November 8, 2009  10:44 AM ET

Iverson needs to retire or play in Europe. His welcome to the NBA is now officially over. He is showing very poor leadership and do not know of the word sacrifice. That is why Detriot and Denver got rid if him, me, myself, and Iverson is a cancer in any locker room.

November 8, 2009  10:56 AM ET

The Grizzlies are currently 1-6. Can Randolph be blamed for that, of course not. But why would Memphis pay a player 16-17 million when it won't raise them from the bottom of the NBA anyway. They should have focused on player development, capspace, and draft picks. How does Randolph help them with any of that? Watch the 2010 offseason, and you'll see players who are far better than Randolph who won't be paid 17 million.

Smell that? Yep ... yet another bridge burned ...

November 8, 2009  11:01 AM ET

It took him ONE GAME!!!

Cut his arse.

Cleveland as sixth man would have been perfect, he could still get 30 plus minutes and 20+pt, 5ast. Over rated...you go out and take his beatdowns. Go ahead. Your awesome. Go put 6 foot a buck 70 against giants for over a decade. Tell us how you feel. Take your team to the Finals. Win MVP. Oh, wait you can't, your not Iverson. I'm not a huge fan but i'm sure as hell not the fans hatin on him when hes 33 when they loved him at 27. He's old for a reason. Go get hit by Karl Malone or Shaq just once...Oh, then go do it a few hundred more times...
