Will Lecavalier ask out of Tampa Bay?

Tampa's continued (and not unexpected) mediocrity had ex-Bruin Rick Tocchet, the Lightning bench boss, questioning the passion of some of his charges, including captain Vinny Lecavalier. Tocchet is right; the Bolts need more out of their franchise center, but it also could be that the coach's words are a way to prompt Lecavalier to reach for his "Get Out Of Jail Free" card (surrender his no-trade clause, which activated July 1) and bring the financially-shaky franchise $7.727 million in annual cap relief.

If you put mediocre talent around a star, the star will diminish. Trade him to a contender and re-build.

If he's smart he'll ok the move - if the Frightning's management were smart - they wouldn't take a deal unless it's at least three guys that can actually play - and I mean, immediatement. But they're not - and, if they are trying to sell, or move the franchise in any foreseeable future, they'd be crazy, to let him go to anybody in the East - unless they're actually thinkin' of headin' to the West, or, unless it's to a team that's already a powerhouse - but then, even three first rounders, and, a player, or two, still wouldn't cut it. Unless of course, it were Beanertown, and TO's tantalizing pick(s) got involved.

The Bruins should offer Wideman, Ryder and their own first round pick next year.

A man can dream can't he?

Vinny has his cup...maybe he's happy in T-Bay

No way they pull that trade. They would want Brad Marchand + Mikko Lehtonen and 2 1sts.

I think all of the Canadiens trade talk last season soured him in Tampa Bay, and I think a trade would do him a world of good.

Yes, and he doesn't have to go to Montreal.

Gotta figure Boston's the perfect fit - but Chicago makes way more... dollars, and sense - all ways round - 'specially if Vinnie is dynasty hunting. There's virtually no end to the possibilities that the Hox could dangle in front of TB, and still be the team with the dream - The Quake on The Lake.

November 8, 2009  07:48 PM ET

rangers desperatly need a number 1 center and i could care less if dubinsky, rozsival, voros, or even drury are sent packing

Chicago's going to have major cap problems next year brother .Montreal will step up to the plate in a big way and yeah NYR10 he'd look good in Blueshirt & they have a few prospects / suspects to offer

And it's too late for a Hongcouver trade now that Luongo is signed for mega shekels and life.

the thing everyone forgets is that he WANTS to play in Montreal, he's said it multiple times himself. Every true Montrealer who grows up a Habs fan wants to come home and play for their home team. He's got #4 as a jersey cause of his idol Jean Beliveau, a player of whom retired well before Vinnie was even born. That's true hockey knowledge to idolize someone prior to your own time like that. If it's Vinnie's call, he'd want to be in Montreal, the finances obviously come into effect, but none the less, he'll try to wind up there in some way shape or form.

I'd love to see him there. The Habs are not worth watching currently.

Gainey would have to convince the Bolts to take Gomez in return, and if they are only trying to get rid of Lecavalier for Cap Space, what would trading for Gomez gain them? Lord knows the Habs couldn't fit both players under the Cap

Sammy Pollock could have pulled it off.

And ended up with the number 1 pick over all...

November 9, 2009  04:13 PM ET

His cap hit is way to big for another team to trade for him

gainey could dump other guys that are doing relatively well in Montreal, even though they're becoming fan favorites. See: Cammalleri and Gionta. Bringing Vinnie to Montreal would EASILY be justified even if you lose a few good guys for just one Vinnie. The fans would lose their minds in joy if they found out Vinnie was coming to Montreal, for an example of that, see the all-star game in Montreal. They went apesh*t for him then cause they THOUGHT he MIGHT be coming to Montreal.
