Friend: Cavs should fear LeBron leaving

One of LeBron's closest confidants, in response to those who mocked my disclosure Cavs chairman Dan Gilbert is terrified his meal ticket will abscond should the team not win a title, declared to friends, "They (Dan and his entourage; young owners have them, too) better be scared!"

Another one of those sure-fire NY Post sources, like when they cite the "internet".

Lebron's too much of a coward, drama queen to stick it out in Cleveland. He needs to go somewhere that can cater to his giant ego.

November 8, 2009  09:18 AM ET

See I don't think cav management should be 'scared'
they should be PROACTIVE.
Instead of waiting til next year to bring in another 'star'
they should go out NOW and try and improve the team NOW
F the cap.....
go out, try and trade for a Big forward and a starting caliber SG

Obviously, he will be leaving Cleveland, let's be serious. If you don't think so, ask yourself this: who wants to be the big fish in the Cleveland pond?

November 8, 2009  09:40 AM ET

It'd be hard to envision him wearing any other jersey, but it is possible.

November 8, 2009  09:48 AM ET

We've all discussed this issue at length for TWO other T&R articles, in which we posted approximately 300 comments.

Why repeat all those same things yet again ?

After all, this article is just quoting a Lebron groupie's loud mouth, and it's from the NY Post, which is basically a tabloid.

Anyway, to recap: I wonder if LA had any "fear" of losing Magic Johnson, if Boston had any "fear" of losing Larry Bird, or if Chicago had any "fear" of losing Jordan. Even if one argues that those are all big markets - and hence unfair to compare to Cleveland - there are other examples.

Utah never had "fear" of losing Karl Malone - he stayed there almost his entire career - and San Antonio never had "fear" of losing Duncan. Both Utah and San Antonio - being "small markets" - had years where their surrounding casts were not that great, but their stars still remained loyal and stuck with the teams until the management could assemble a good team around them, piece by piece.

As the rumors about LeBron continue, I'm beginning to lose some respect for him. His value as a basketball player cannot be questioned - he's a beast of a physical specimen to start with. However, he's starting to come across as a less likable person.

More yellow journalism from the New York Post. I'm sure that LeBron's homies talk to Gilbert and his 'entourage' all the time. Having said that, Danny Ferry has done an abysmal job at surrounding James with the tools to do the job. If in fact LeBron leaves, the Cavs have noone to blame but themselves.

He would be hated like no other, that being said I do think he'll leave and should leave CLE.

November 8, 2009  10:05 AM ET

This isn't news.

maybe in Cleveland- but no one's opinion outside of cleveland
would change....I mean he wouldn't be the first FA to leave

ANd as UI said & Hllywd said above- if he DOES leave- it is
100% the fault of Cav management for failing to properly surround him

Really? Wouldn't it be things like the cap that do that as well? Not everyone can find a sucker like the Lakers did for Gasol when they gave up nothing to get him.

I meant in CLE, should've put that.

I'm not up on CLE history but is he the first to grow up there, go to school there, play there then leave? I agree it'd be their own fault if he does leave, should've put players around him that grow with him.

Get an athletic 4 man and fear will not be a factor for them.
If not he just may leave.

November 8, 2009  10:31 AM ET

If he leaves it will be for NJ.....anyone else besides Cleveland has no shot in the world...

That's what I think they should do as well. They really shouldn't have two centers on their payroll and you know there is a team out there that would love to have Z this year.

Next of all, yo hear on this thread Mayor Bloomberg will sell his house to give money for the Lebron to N.Y, sweepstakes. Then you will hear A-Rod will give half of his 242 million dollar contract for Prince James to sign in New York. These stories are ridicilous. Everybody knows that Prince James is leaving lonely Cleveland to sign with the Knicks.

Knicks need a star and David Stern wants a superstar player there in New York. Lebron is just following the money.

SPURSDYNASTY, how your Spurs doing so far? LOL

LeBron is GONE. He'll say all the appropriate "Cleveland is the best"...BUT...he's business. Big Market. You think hes big now? Wait 2 years. And i don't blame him in the least. Go where the money is. I don't win an NBA title in 20 years but im a BILLIONAIRE and Hall of Famer...yep, im good. And all of us would be.

He is leaving regardless. It doesnt matter what the Cavs offer to improve the team. Lebron mind was made up 3 years ago about New York. That is why he never signed the extension this summer with Cleveland.

I agree with everything except for the championship comment. I believe winning a title is very important to secure your legacy as one of the greats to ever play in the game.
