Campbell leaving Redskins

Anointed the Redskins's quarterback of the future when he was drafted in 2005, Jason Campbell is in the final year of his rookie contract, and there have been no discussions of an extension this season. At season's end, it seems increasingly likely that Campbell might search for success in a different city with a different system, and the Redskins could well resume their hunt for the next franchise quarterback.

They have given this guy 3 or 4 different offensive systems since he has been there. Each time changing it on him. Guy shows promise and sputters, he might do better some where else. Not sure he will ever be a starting QB again, I think his confidence is shot.

After a few years, I think I may have finally come to the same conclusion as a lot of my Redskin fan buddies... he just ain't that good.

does anyone thing Mark Sanchez or Cutler would have fared any better?

November 8, 2009  11:10 AM ET

It seems to be a never-ending task for the Redskins.

Sanchez is overrated. #28 in QB rating and the team is fading, fast. Some of it has to do with their coach, who hasn't met a microphone he didn't like, but Sanchez just isn't that good. He may improve, but the savior that he was marketed as isn't happening.

No - the annual injuries on the O-Line would have had them running for their lives also. But the guy has Zero confidence and when the O-Line was healthy this year, Campbell continued to show his unwillingness to stretch the field.

Out of the league within 3 years, I say...

If he is lucky maybe he can go elsewhere and start again with protection and a scheme that lasts longer than 12 months......poor kid

November 8, 2009  11:27 AM ET

This guy is the victim of poor ownership. He might have been decent--he might have even flourished--in a system that had stability and a modicum of football intelligence.

November 8, 2009  11:43 AM ET

After the way they showed their faith in this kid, I'd be running for the door at seasons end! This guy has been in multiple offensive schemes in multiple years, so you can't blame the kid for his struggles. Management is to blame blame for the failures of this qb and team! He'll go somewhere else and thrive in a stable, committed system without all of the extra nonsense involved. Good for you Jason, i wouldn't WANNA resign with those jerks!

Give the man a second chance, backup QB. Playing for the Redskins the last couple years could make anyone look bad. Not as bad as the Browns. The man has been beat'n down. He will get another look.

Sanchez hasn't even had a full season. It's too early to write him off.

As for Campbell, there's always the annual Raiders starting job open. Oh wait, no there isn't. Uncle Al thinks, no KNOWS, that Jabust Russell is the starter.

On the serious note, Campbell has some skills but does need to get the heck outta Washington. Teams like the Rams, Chiefs, and Bills may be a spot for him.

November 8, 2009  12:01 PM ET

You ain't gonna play all that well if they change offenses on you all the time, surround you with below average to average players, and your owner tells you how much he loves you while he's on hold with another QB he wants more.

The writing is on the wall. A move to greener pastures would benefit him. Maybe being a backup in a stable organization that isn't run by dimwits and half-wits would help him mature.

Washington is the Oakland of the east.

November 8, 2009  12:12 PM ET

Campbell can go somewhere and be a bridge for a team who doesnt want to start their rookie QB right away. But, that's probably all he'll ever be after this year.

November 8, 2009  12:19 PM ET

Jason Campbell will go on to be a star and redskins will still need a starting o- line don't care what slow quarter back they put in there

Whoa! I don't think I would go that far!

Redskins never gave this guy a chance with stability.

I'm sure the Raiders will still have an opening for QB....

November 8, 2009  01:56 PM ET

Hey wheres Chico??? i would have figured he would have something to say about this. I agree with the another poster, the Redskins are the Raiders of the east. Two once proud teams in the dumps cause the owners are not smart enough to know how to keep their hands off.

Chico never posts on Sundays. He also never posts on Mondays. And after this blood-letting today, he may never post this week.

Can't blame him - it sucks when the team you root for is a complete and total mess. Raiders fans understand this.

Dimwits and half-wits? You're being too kind to them
