Browns owner chasing Holmgren?

The latest report, on ESPN.com, has Browns owner Randy Lerner chasing after Mike Holmgren. It's believable. Lerner approached him last year. It's also a face-saver. The new guy would have to be someone of that stature to save Lerner from this debacle. The pool of Super Bowl champion coaches -- Holmgren, Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden -- who might look to get back in the game in 2010 either on the sideline or upstairs is unprecedented.

Don't see this one becoming reality.

Better get rid of Man-Genius first. He is what is wrong with that team, oh, and the idiots who hired him in the first place.

I knew we would have a Browns thread in here somewhere...

Same here. Holmgren can pick his spot and I can't imagine Cleveland high on his list the way things stand now with that franchise.

So he's going after Holmgren because all of the other guys have stayed in shape, and can run away faster? I suppose that makes sense.

Holmgren can either stay with a team that is rebuilding or move to the Browns where he can fade away into a tremendous pile of suck. Is this really an option he would entertain?

Only if they gave him a huge contract and total control of football operations...which would mean the rat-b*stard loser Mangina would be the first one out the door. The challenge of bringing respectability to one of the great football cities might be attractive to Holmgren if he's given the tools and authority to take a legitimate shot at it.

Maybe I'm bitter, but I hope Man-Genius bought a house in Cleveland so he gets stuck with it as a reminder of the level of suck he brings to the league.

No chance he ever gets a job in the NFL again, no team would hire him as a coordinator either for fear on how he may talk when the team that hires him as a coordinator gets around to firing him.

I don't know about Mike running fast but I don't think he would even poke that mess in Ohio with a 10 ft poll

I smell a college job coming for him...a job where his a**hole tactics would work fine with kids who will do whatever it takes to make the NFL. But if there's a God, he'll be washing floors and emptying trash in the Brown's Stadium offices before he's done in the NFL. Something befitting his worth...

Dunno, man... for the right money and with the right kind of concessions from the owner (say something along the lines of a Parcells-type position in the organization), this could be a good place for Holmgren.

I think the point of bringing in Holmgren would be to fire Mangini so Lerner doens't have to do the dirty work. I don't think this would be a bad idea for either the Browns or Holmgren. This would essentially give Mike the "Total Control" he is looking for and gives the Browns someone who can turn the team around.
They have 11 picks in the 2010 draft and I would rather have Holmgren picking them instead of Mangini trading them to the Jets for 32' inch LCD and a bag of balls!

November 9, 2009  08:17 AM ET

Isn't Holmgren's personal ego and self sense of worth larger than Lerners wallet??

November 9, 2009  08:17 AM ET

Fire mangini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

November 9, 2009  08:19 AM ET

Hmmmm - might be a good way to get Mangina to take a hike. He might decide to quit if he gets a real football guy above him in the organization, someone he can't push around.
