Malisse might retire after drug ban

09:44 AM ET 11.09 | Belgian tennis player Xavier Malisse said he was considering retiring as he did not have the money to appeal his one-year ban for missing a drug test. Malisse and compatriot Yanina Wickmayer, the U.S. Open semifinalist, were both suspended by the Flemish Doping Tribunal (VDT) on Thursday for failing to comply with doping regulations. But 95th-ranked Malisse, who has earned over 3.5 million dollars in his career, said that he did not have the money to appeal his suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). "A procedure before CAS is very costly and lasts a very long time," said the 29-year-old, who has won three career titles and was ranked 19 in 2002. "I currently don't have the financial means to take on such a battle. I still don't know what I'm going to do, but if the suspension is maintained that means the end of my career." Malisse was punished for missing a drugs test and for twice failing to fulfill the ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) under which athletes are obliged to tell national anti-doping authorities where they will be at a chosen hour each day for a three-month period.

First of all - MARTINA Navratilova is a dried-up dike and NO ONE CARES a word she has to say, PERIOD. To reference Roger CLEMENS is so stupid it doesn't even make sense. Just a spiteful old hag WHO DID STEROIDS herself, is jealous of STEFFI's booty, and got kicked-out of tennis by Andre's now wife.
As for ROGER, he just needs to shut his mouth and not comment at all. WOULD TIGER WOODS ever make ANY comment on something? NO. Come to think of it -- in NO OTHER sport do the players have diahrrea of the mouth like this - it just doesn't happen.
As for NADAL -- he needs to SHUT his introverted church mouse mouth and go back to wearing wedgie ****-capri pants and keep them in Spain.
DICK-head VITALE is and always has been a total MORON anyway, so the fact he is senile and redundant as far as Division III college basketball is concerned, has no clue with reality.
Lastly, the ATP allowed Agassi to play after he failed a drug test, so don't blame the messenger with the temporary drug-problem -- talk to the ATP. And talk about ALL the other PERFECT tennis players who have had rec-drug issues over the years. What a bunch of snob pretenders.

The WADA rules are draconian and have come under heavy criticism. Many tennis players have voiced their displeasure at the intrusive nature. It is also a nightmare for players, especially the ones that are not in the top echelons. Their schedule changes according to their results. If they exit early from a tournament they do not want to spend more money on hotels etc.
Despite all the criticism and the negativity surrounding the WADA rules, it has contributed in catching cheaters. This is to be appreciated and even if it is a pain, the players have to follow it. While Nadal and a few others have expressed their extreme displeasure, Federer agrees that it has to be done even if it is a major inconvenience.
Now, I do not know how the previous poster has drawn Agassi, Navratilova etc into the discussion but that is a separate topic. Agassi's case had to do with the ATP's handling of a positive test for a recreational drug. This was a performance detrimental drug but nevertheless an illegal one. Something should have been done but Agassi was given the benefit of the doubt. Agassi's sensational revelation that he easily made the ATP buy his lie should not detract from the basic fact that the ATP has been inconsistent in its enforcement. Recentlty, Richard Gasquet was given the benefit of doubt while Hingis was not. There could be any number of reasons why Agassi revealed it now.

Malisse is one of the "poster children" for what the ATP Tour really is (aside from the Federer's and Nadal's of the world)... an international touring event where young men squander their talent, party hardy with all forms of vice, burn through their cash and chase skirt (or more precisely- have skirt chase them). See- Philippoussis, Mark.
Anyway, he's either b.s.'ing about not having the cash to appeal- or more likely- IMHO- he simply doesn't care enough to pursue it. He certainly never cared much about his tennis career generally. All of which highlights the absolute JOKE it is that the "tennis community" is "shocked" and "outraged" by Agassi's revelations. Gimme a break... and open your eyes while you're at it... Your "tour" is Lollapolloza.

What does this have anything to do with what's in the article? Dick Vitale? What the hell are you talking about. I agree Martina is being a little harsh, seeing as Clemens is a giant egotistical liar, but Federer and Nadal haven't said anything untrue. One the sports greatest icons admits to doing CRYSTAL METH and successfully lying about it after failing a drug test. It's pretty ridiculous. He wasn't cheating, it's more of just a sad story of the mental and emotional fatigue professional sports can have on an individual.

US$ 3.5 million is not that much over the course of a career once you factor in all the costs. Imagine how much it takes to pay for hotels, coaches, travel, entry-fee. Not much is left after you pay all the above and taxes. Life is really hard for lower ranked players because they don't make the big bucks from sponsorship. Malisse was a decent player, at best. The fact is that he never failed a drug-test and the ATP just wants to use him as an example. How should I say it, it's easy to punish the low-ranked, not-famous guy rather than incur the wrath of the big guns.

"the better business bureau has been flooded with calls and letters this week, all complaining about a website called lkkshop.com. the complaints range from paying for merchandise that was never delivered to one woman's objection to not only receiving a counterfeit gucci handbag, but finding a dead iguana inside to boot. customers seeking refunds for undelivered merchandise are encouraged to monitor the better business bureau's website for information regarding legal representation in a pending class action lawsuit against the company."
