Rockets, McGrady at odds again

06:07 AM ET 11.10 | Last season, when Tracy McGrady decided to have microfracture knee surgery, ending his season, the Rockets found out by watching television. Rockets coach Rick Adelman was livid at the way the announcement was handled. McGrady described it as a misunderstanding. A season later, however, he clearly has not learned from the experience, or simply does not care if the Rockets object to his announcements. He said during the summer that he was 99 percent back and would be ready to practice with the team at the start of training camp. Things did not work out that way. According to the Rockets, he still has not gone through a full practice. Then on Monday, in an email to Yahoo! Sports, he said he would play next Wednesday. The problem with that was that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey had already said on Monday that nothing had changed in McGrady's timetable, that he won't play until the team considers him to be 100 percent and that he would need to be checked out in a full practice before he will be permitted to play a game.

Shame, but you just don't get it Tmac....don't you realize by now that the Rockets organization only deals with character players?? Make your millions elsewhere while the current roster survives this year on guts, heart and defense of which you are liabilities for each.

I wouldnt say a waste of talent he cant help he is injured, its different being healthy and sitting at home and collecting checks but he has tried to play through the pain and that is why he keeps getting more injured.

Guts, heart ?? Did you not watch the playoffs 2 years ago where he was injecting his ankles so he could play through the pain and was dropping 30 or 40 points in the first round of the play offs against the Jazz, injuries took over his career.

McGrady is misunderstood. All he wants is for ownership and management to call a daily press conference to extoll his value to the franchise.

I would have believed that, if not for the way he's communicated (or not) with the organization regarding his latest injury.

My impression is that, he seems to have made these decisions without even consulting the coaching staff, at least. And they should be the first to know since he plays for them and they're the one who signs his paycheck (the Team I mean).

If it was you and me, if we made major work decisiosn without consulting our bosses, what do you think will happen to us.

He may have the talent, but his character seems questionable..

Yes his character I agree seems questionable but remember this is the same guy who has came back early from injuries because of his organization. I think due to all of the injuries racking up and his organization in one ear asking him to come back early when Ming is healthy gets him more injured. Tmac is not the type of player to go to the media and bash on players and organization so every thing is done behind closed door. The organization has as much fault.

that's cause he couldn't care less.....
all he is focused on is trying to get some IDIOT GM
to give him another (last) contract....
If you believe there's any other motive- no offense- but you're wrong

I agree, he never bashed the team nor the organization, but he basically kept them out of the loop as far as the last injury is concerned. This also includes the decision he made to have season ending injury without consulting with the team first.

It could have been handled better.

Your right! After numerous injuries you wonder something has to give and start taking matter into your own hands if the organization seems to be failing with his recovery, the guy hasnt played a full season since maybe Orlando years. I dont think he should come back until after the all star break let him fully recover and see what happens.

I agree, especially, since this might be his last time to recover fully from an injury and still be productive. He's not getting any younger.

tmac.....I more curious on who will sign him and for how much....even more than Wade,LBJ etc.....

November 10, 2009  09:25 AM ET

McGrady played 79 games in '99. He has never played a full season. 79 games is the best he's ever done. No need to rush him back. Smart money says he'll only be there until the next issue. He's probably done.
