08:19 AM ET 11.10 | The Philadelphia Union will be selecting its first players in just two weeks when Major League Soccer holds the Expansion Draft and Union head coach Peter Nowak will have his lead assistant coach in place for the draft. The Union will announce the hire of former U.S. national team assistant John Hackworth today, sources told SBI on Monday. Hackworth was in Chester, Pa. working with Nowak and fellow assistant Josh Gros as recently as last week.

apparently Hackworth's is not just the asst. coach, but also in control of all youth aspects of the Union....

seems an obvious pick as he's had control of the US U17's for some time prior to Cabrera.... while he wasnt an overly popular pick for the U17's for most Youth footie fans, he should do well as far as the academy aspect goes....

Bob is losing coaches left and right, but at the right time... its highly unlikely the next USMN coach would pick the same asst. so find jobs now that theres less then a year left... bob will live, no doubt

Sounds good... now please show me your jerseys... even though I'm sure the debut will be at the draft.

I didn't realize Josh Gros landed in Philly--nice to see after all the concussion issues. Smart, har-working player who should make a good coach.

I like the sound of the last pargraph in this article:

The U.S. national team has yet to hire Hackworth's replacement, but former D.C. United head coach Tom Soehn and Chivas USA head coach Preki are two candidates to join Bradley's staff.

While I'm not particulary exicted about Soehn, if the USNMT could prty Preki away from Chivas that would be great. It might even set up a situation where Preki becomes the men's national team coach after BB leaves (hopefully) after the World Cup.

They'll wait to have their players before unveiling the jerseys.

Yeah... I know... can't even get a good leak on it... nothin. It's the internet age, it's crazy that someone, somewhere, hasn't leaked it ;-)

uggg we've been over this.... Preki will come to the Fire FACT!1

Preki is one of 3 MLS coaches i wouldnt object to coaching USMN if they opt for another MLS coach.... Preki, Kinnear and Nicol (no specific order)... Sigi isnt an option as he just signed up with Seattle... i dont see him going anywhere

Agreed. Makes Sounders home kit look like a classic. Emphasize the sky blue if you're gonna have a blue kit, Philly.

The blues don't offer enough contrast. And two other things that seem to be the new trend drive me crazy. I hate when any sort of pattern stops for the sponsor's name; we still could read it on this jersey. Plus I hate when the team crest goes in the center. It belongs over the heart, dammit. That's not just stylistic; it's symbolic.

Of course, I'm the same guy who has told his son that if he ever wants cleats in any color other than black, he can buy them himself.

Fairly certain I saw this on a thread for people playing around designing potential jerseys when the crest and colors were announced, so my pronouncement at this point is fake.

Having said that, remove the vertical stripe down the center, throw the crest over the heart, and I think it looks good.

clearly fake by simply looking at the stripe down the middle...

though im not discrediting the fact it could look like that, simply saying that the pic showed is a fake....

why not have a sky blue kit...

no need to throw in a 3rd color... their crest depicts sky blue and gold....

the only time ive been ok with throwing in a 3rd color was when the Fire had their Sky Blue jersey's several years ago.... classic jersey, almost impossible to find

It's kinda hard to fire a coach right after he brought the team to the conference/MLS finals...though I wouldn't put it pass the Fire. They would definitely have the fans' support.

I could see Preki waiting a year then coaching the stars and stripes, and i love him as a coach, firey and physical play, what we need, and hes a better tactician bob i hope, wait he has to be, my 12 year old sister makes better choices

Looks like Preki was relieved of his duties with Chivas USA tonight. What I've heard is that Preki is going to the Federation to be Bradley's number two through South Africa. Could be wrong but the person who told me is usually reliable.
