With Tiki Barber gone into retirement, Tom Coughlin has laid the mantle of leadership at the feet of Eli Manning, who can either kick it aside or reach down and embrace it the way all Giants fans desperately want him to do. Manning says he's ready to accept the challenge.

this manning sux. remember the coaches screaming in his face last year and the look on his mug? giants are going nowhere.

who dat

We'll see. Dedication issues continue to surround this kid - though he has nearly impossible shoes to fill thanks to his brother. The New York media, mixed with the lack of a real running back is not going to make it any easier on him. His best chance is if Coughlin can actually use his stupid head and run more plays through Shockey, who has been criminally under-used in the Coughlin/Manning era. While he as an excellent blocking TE, his strength is making big grabs and energizing the team - and it won't hurt Eli to have a short-route threat a little more often. Still think Coughlin shoulda been fired...

Eli without a running game is a scary thought (to the Giants). It's not like he's Peyton... this guy hasn't proven that he can even crack to 60% completion rate barrier.

Oh, and they can't run more plays through Shockey because Shockey is a nutjob who does his job half the time and disappears the other half of the time. Like most of Eli's receivers - the only person he can actually trust seems to be Plaxico, and I dunno if that's saying much

What the hell is he going to lead? I think Eli will be good one day, but that day won't come this year. Hello 5-11.

July 12, 2007  08:43 AM ET

umm yeah...Good luck with that Eli. Say, can you get me your brothers autograph.

July 12, 2007  09:20 AM ET

Can you lead while your sitting on your behind after another sack?

July 12, 2007  09:22 AM ET

Mr. Eli Manning says : "Yes....I will lead! I will lead the NFL in interceptions thrown, incomplete passes, sacks from thin air, and my personal favorite, EXCUSES!" Will the real Eli Manning please stand up?

July 12, 2007  09:27 AM ET

Kinda sad that it took Tiki Barber retiring for the coach to actually ask the QB to be a leader. That pretty much says it all about Eli.

July 12, 2007  09:57 AM ET

lead em where??

July 12, 2007  10:13 AM ET

According to our data there is a preponderance of recent postings contending that we are internet losers.

(And we are.)

July 12, 2007  11:29 AM ET

"Manning says he's ready to accept the challenge."

Sure Eli... sure.

July 12, 2007  12:00 PM ET

All I got to say is that as a Giants fan I'm getting ready for a 5-11 season. Be prepared for a lot of underthrown passes at receivers feet followed by Eli holding onto his helmet in disbelief while giving his signature Corky from "Life Goes On" face.

July 12, 2007  12:22 PM ET

The Chargers owe Eli a big THANK YOU!!!!

July 12, 2007  12:59 PM ET

Funny...Spartak Olga looks just like Next Door Nikki...Hmm? Bro, get a life! That's sad, that a guy would resort to stealing pictures off the interest to trick guys into thinking he's a hot Russian Chick. You sir, are a flaming ****.

July 12, 2007  01:07 PM ET

Jacobs is gonna blow the NFL away. Eli's got better stats than most QBs of his vintage, the GIANTS will win the SB this (next Feb) year!!!!

July 12, 2007  01:10 PM ET

So NOW HE IS READY?! OH, I thought he should have been ready when he was given the starting job?

"YOU DIDN'T SAY GO, MAN?! Isn't there supposed to be a buzzer or a bell or something?!"

July 12, 2007  01:11 PM ET

BTW,

Eli kinda looks like the kid Corkey from that show 'Life Goes On'

July 12, 2007  01:21 PM ET

eli is ready?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......GIANTS SUCK

July 12, 2007  01:34 PM ET

displaced_fan...are you high? Super Bowl? For the Giants? That prediction stinks as bad as the diaper that ELI wears.

July 12, 2007  01:35 PM ET

Yeh he thinks he is Payton, Come'on you are no Payton or Brady hell you are no Romo....backup to one of them may be. Eli, stop thinking yourself as one of them (by demanding 1st round trade) and shut up and play football to show us what you can do first.....J.*%K
