09:28 AM ET 11.15 | The Nets have a safety net in Newark if the Brooklyn deal falls through, an unsourced ESPN.com report suggested Saturday. The report stated that Mikhail Prokhorov is willing to buy the team at a reduced rate and keep it in New Jersey if the Atlantic Yards project dies, which contradicts what the team and the league have been saying since the Russian oligarch bid $200 million for a controlling share of the Nets in September.

Good Point... With this record who would want them...

I live in NJ - and the thing is - It's not news that if the Brooklyn Project doesn't happen (very strong possibility) they would stay where they are or move in with the Devils in Newark.

So why is the local paper running this story and why is TNR picking it up like it's news?

Bring 'em to Brooklyn! :D

I really believe that the nets moving to Newark will do nothing
- I mean the meadowlands is what 10 miles away?
It's one of the wierdest things in sports how the nets can't draw

That being said- KC has a new arena and are drooling to get a team

Well, this Russian "businessman" probably wants to install his own mafia contingent wherever he goes. And since the Italian mafia is already established in Brooklyn, maybe he feels that his own Russian mafia is better suited to settle in Newark and create a Jersey presence.
After all, Newark is right across the river from Manhattan, so it's still close enough to the financial center of the world that he wouldn't mind settling there.
Hehehe. :)

The league should create a Tier-1, Tier-2 divisions, and relegate teams winning < 25 games to play Tier-2. Keeps the competitions healthy. Whoever wins the Tier-2 gets to move up, and the worst team in Tier-1 will be relegated.

P.S if Byron Scott was fired for a 3-6 record then Lawrence Frank better be fired for an 0-10 record!

Exactly. They're worse than my Knicks, and thats saying a lot!

let's see.....

brooklyn: has emerged as a major center of american culture and is experiencing an influx of middle class, affluent and artistic sorts.

newark: not so much. though they do have a good mayor. and that's about it.

if the nba lets the nets choose newark over brooklyn then someone needs to lose their job.

I kinda want to see them in Brooklyn, altho I know that would suck for the people in New Jersey, I like Brooklyn and that would be great for them evn though the team is pretty bad

good idea...specially teams are not comparable. I mean look at Celts, Magic, Cavs and look at Knicks, Nets or Cats

I will think top 2 tier -2 team will play Tier 1 next season while bottom-2 of the tier 1 will be delegated each year.
