10:08 AM ET 11.15 | When Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll met at midfield after Stanford completed its 55-21 defenestration of USC here Saturday, their conversation was brief, pointed and seemingly unsatisfying. "What's your deal? What's your deal?" Carroll said, according to two sources near enough to hear. "What's your deal?" Harbaugh retorted, and that was that. Now there's the brevity of wit for you. It is also evidence of what will be a lingering dislike-a-thon between the two men, punctuated by Harbaugh's impish yet gratuitous two-point conversion attempt after Stanford's seventh - yes, seventh - touchdown. It looked like what it was, Harbaugh putting a knee in Carroll's exposed coaching nethers.

Pete - your vaunted defense is a mess!!!

The Sun Bowl isn't good enough for this team right now.

November 15, 2009  10:28 AM ET

Payback is a female canine Pete.

I'm sure the rest of the Pac 10 is smiling this AM.

What goes around, comes around...

November 15, 2009  10:31 AM ET

PC is definitely pissed about the 2 pt attempt but as has already been pointed out I don't ever recall PC letting up when he was taking the PAC 10 behind the woodshed.

Waaaaahhh.

November 15, 2009  10:31 AM ET

His "deal" Petey, is that he realizes that your little run of dominance in the Pac-10 is over. The rest of the conference won't sit as doormats forever. You'll get used to it. We did.

November 15, 2009  10:34 AM ET

I don't think he was upset about the 2-point conversion...I think Pete was trying to figure out how Harbaugh is able to coach a team, since he doesn't have the superstars he used to.

November 15, 2009  10:37 AM ET

I would agree... ever since that everson griffen hercules pose... that demonstrated the type of ball-player that Pete has been recruiting... the same type that led to the demise of Miami football... the thug player... Mays, a great kid, has also sunk to the thug level... just flying around with his head and not wrapping up... When the run started, SC played your dad's football... physical, and imposing its will on both sides of the line... it was solid football that commanded respect and showed respect to its opponent...when they made plays they did not showboat like this talented bunch of rogues does... This truly is kharma... I hope Pete figures this out and rights the SC ship... meanwhile, let's see how long Harbaugh can stay on top

November 15, 2009  10:40 AM ET

USC, Michigan, Notre Dame all getting dealt huge blows, while Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State all roll.

A new era?

November 15, 2009  10:52 AM ET

As a longtime USC supporter, I was disappointed in Pete Carroll's post game actions. Take your medicine and move on Pete. If you didn't want the Cardinal running up the score, have your defense do something about it.

November 15, 2009  10:54 AM ET

Yes, payback is sweet. I vividly remember the Trojans prancin' and dancin' on the sidelines while Sanchez conducted the band at last year's Rose Bowl. You're a class act, Pete.

November 15, 2009  10:54 AM ET

Store this one away Pete, forget about the taking the high road next year at stanford, the foundation is strong for USC, thats why 1 year wonders have life altering moments with they FINALLY get a couple of wins, after generations of being road kill. Yes, Stanford, and for comparisons sake, the Denver Nuggets, both got what they have been lusting for, for some time, a victory over a foe who has handily dominated them with ease for what seems like eternity. Enjoy it, for you can't sustain it.

November 15, 2009  10:55 AM ET

"What's your deal?" Carroll said..."What's your deal?" Harbaugh retorted...

Come on Jim. What's your deal? Clever. How 'bout:

What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason, how
infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and
admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like
a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals???and yet,
to me, you are a smelly piece of $hit.

Al Davis is now an official Jim Harbaugh fan. After watching the Stanford Cardinal, blowout the Pac-10 powerhouse, the USC trojans, the Raider General Partner exclaimed, "Boy, this Stanford head coach is something. Since he left Baltimore, he's done a terrific job @ Stanford." When Davis's aide's informed Davis, that the Baltimore Ravens head coach is John Harbaugh, the brother of Jim Harbaugh, Stanford's football coach, Davis responded. "Well, both boys seem to be doing a fine job. Say, pass the pretzel's."

November 15, 2009  10:59 AM ET

All that talent and 3 losses. The latest a 34 point blowout to Stanford and he's crying about someone running up the score on him??? How's it feel Pete. If this was Charlie Wies the media would be all over him. Maybe you can play ND in the Humanitarian Bowl.

November 15, 2009  10:59 AM ET

I liked the time (in years past) the Stanford marching formed the outline of a condom to prank on the Trojan moniker... or the time when they formed the initials "OJ" in honor of another outstanding SC alumnus.

November 15, 2009  11:02 AM ET

Pete Carroll is the poster child of the University of Spoiled Children. He can dish it out but he can't take it. To bad this doesn't happen more often.

November 15, 2009  11:04 AM ET

Since Pete can dish it out, now he has to take it. If you are ready to play and you do your job, this does not happen. It's not like they got beat on a fluke penalty and a lucky bounce. USC got trounced and Pate cannot handle it! Pete, sometimes the big boys in the neighborhood are not all on your team. Deal with it.

November 15, 2009  11:04 AM ET

was the 2pt conversion necessary? probably not...BUT as somebody else said, USC has been putting up such numbers on teams for years...it doesn't feel good, does it Mr.Carroll?

November 15, 2009  11:05 AM ET

Seriously Carroll, are you really going to complain when someone runs up the score against the USC Trojans? You guys are notorious for running up the score against everyone.

I love what Harbaugh and Stanford did to USC. Lets hope the rest of the Pac 10 watches the tape and does the same.

November 15, 2009  11:06 AM ET

hey UTFAN, did you see my aggies get the "prison greeting" by OU? what an embarassing joke...do you think you guys will get "leap-frogged" by tcu since they beat a ranked team? just curious...i have a feeling you guys are going to do the same to us when you visit...

November 15, 2009  11:07 AM ET

I like Harbaugh, conference rivals shouldnt like each other in the first place. Not to mention, Pete would more than likely do the same thing when given the opportunity.
