06:33 AM ET 11.18 | Browns owner Randy Lerner could be stepping up his efforts to land a new head of football operations. At a luncheon this afternoon, Jim Brown, who holds the title of executive advisor with the club, said that Lerner was interviewing somebody to turn around the Browns' fortunes. "At this moment, right now Randy Lerner is meeting with one of the great football minds in this country," Brown said in remarks prior to and during the luncheon. "And if things work out, that person will come in to run the football side of the Browns." Brown would not disclose who it was. When somebody asked if it was Mike Holmgren, Brown responded coyly, "You said it ... and I heard it." Holmgren, the former Green Bay and Seattle coach, has been rumored to be No. 1 on Lerner's wish list to hire a "serious, credible leader" to reorganize his football operations. An NFL source close to Holmgren said he was unaware of a meeting with Lerner, but did not discount it could happen.

First order of business for Holmgren if he takes the job: Fire Mangini. In fact, he should walk him out the door himself to make sure the guy really leaves.

Then and only then can he start rebuilding the franchise.

plow it under, let it compost, start over. Agreed

Is Holmgren seriously thinking of Cleveland? That's a big WHY.

Cause nobody else has made him an offer?

Turd town? Mikey boy wouldn't do that.

"At this moment, right now Randy Lerner is meeting with one of the great football minds in this country..."

Holy crap - Charlie Weis is coming to Cleveland!

Just one more. Lerner has met with Accorsi, and others to get some thoughts. Holmgren is not going to coach there unless it is the ONLY place left to go to.. I don't think he was to start completely over, and without a QB, that is what you are doing there..I am now convinced, after watching them play the other night, they are the worst team in the NFL and not a top 25 NCAA team either..

Many a Browns fan would agree with that I'm sure.

Maybe a UFL team could beat them.

Seems like career suicide.

This team needs an enema

November 18, 2009  08:31 AM ET

Lord I don't want to get my hopes up, but this would be the shot in the arm Cleveland needs. Its time to for the Browns to become a credible franchise again. That way all you losers who get your nuts off just knocking Cleveland will have to find some other team to get your nuts off about.

If you need confirmation that Charlie's a great football mind, just ask him.

Not necessarily. There really is no direct relationship between knocking a team and their level of success....It is more a case of, if it feels right, then do it....

November 18, 2009  09:14 AM ET

WHy would anyone want that train wreck.
